Voter confusion in #PA12, where a Republican named “Mike Doyle” is trying to succeed a Democrat named “Mike Doyle,” sounds ridiculous and is also very real. wesa.fm/politics-gover…
Funniest part of this is that Doyle re-announced his retirement just to get local news coverage that he was not the “Mike Doyle” running as a Republican this year.
Lee is extremely likely to win - she survived the DMFI/AIPAC ad barrage bc she’s a good candidate with great field - so this probably becomes a weird footnote in her bio.
But if she was sleepwalking and taking the race for granted…
What I'm saying is that Florida Democrats' recovery begins with nominating @MattGertz for Congress in the 1st district.

[Starship Troopers voice] Do you want to know more? Hit that subscribe button. Talked with Sanders about a lot more as he heads out to campaign for Democrats and change the party's economic messaging. semafor.com/newsletters
Maybe you're sick of Lettergate, but this is a real debate on the left. Jayapal is a Sanders ally who often sponsors the House version of his Senate bills; Tulsi Gabbard, who campaigned for Sanders in 2016, is now campaigning against Ukraine $/for GOP candidates.
This is driving Dems crazy in a bunch of races; they talk about ARP funding or state budgets increasing law enforcement funding, and ads just keep claiming they defunded police.
One example in Wisconsin, where I am now: Gov. Evers vetoed a 2021 bill that would have punished counties if they defunded police. That got reconstituted in ads as Evers giving those counties the “green light” to defund police, which they haven’t been doing.
There *are* Dems in some places who cut police funding in 2020, but the federal Dem position (which drives activists crazy and feels like a betrayal) is to turn on the money gusher for cops. nytimes.com/2022/05/13/us/…
One of the first speakers is Tina Peters, the Mesa County (CO) clerk who’s been indicted for election tampering but is still running for Secretary of State. She’s introduced as “Gold Star Mother Tina Peters,” and gives a pro-Hageman speech w no mention of the election stuff.
Mike Lindell is next, telling the crowd that the Wyoming election was also rigged in 2020 and Trump didn’t win by 120,000 votes. “He really won by 142,000 votes.”
The actions of Ruth Sent Us keep getting coverage in conservative media but nothing/next to nothing in the MSM.
Post-"defund the police," Dems are more wary of protesters doing things that could Look Bad, so they're not elevating the protests, which is a factor here.
Doesn't help that the RSU actions are what an FBI agent would probably encourage protesters to do in order to look silly and get in trouble.
Dems moving at light-speed to pay for more security for judges is another example of what's changed since 2020 - they're just terrified these days.
That said: Are pro-choicers not paying attention to anti-abortion debate tactics? They do seem to be caught flat-footed by the sort of crazy questions, like, Stephen Crowder asks to trip up college students.
Can men get pregnant? What is a woman? Can a mother kill a child after he or she is born?
The default liberal response to these is being annoyed by the questions but they should probably think up answers, or be ready to defend a position like "men can get pregnant."
(There are trans/nonbinary people who have female reproductive organs and can get pregnant but don't call themselves "women." It's very rare.)
Pelosi, too! Right-wingers climbed into her property to make a point about border security, left-wingers stuck an eviction notice on her door. businessinsider.com/protesters-sti…
I had some takes earlier about how Dems are scared of their side going overboard, but it's not like the Ruth Sent Us folks are the first people to do this and have [gasp!] shattered a sacred norm.
My only point is that Dems get scared of being blamed for crazy or violent protests, and they're almost always scared of this - summer 2020 was the outlier. In 2017 Rs ran ads of J20 anti-Trump protests to win the GA06 runoff, tying all Dems to "the mob."
