So, when will people realize that the character introduced by reading fascist literature is probably not the good guy of the Duelling Committee either?
He's reading Schopenhauer's On the Freedom of Will. You don't introduce someone with that accidentally.
Schopenhauer believed humans should bow to inherited rule of monarchy, which is how the Beneritt Group is set up to work. He was a eugenicist, which matches with how GUND technology which helped disabled people get by was banned.
He was also an anti-semite and someone who argued for pederasty as a positive in a child's upbringing, on top of making indirect statements on the purpose of sex and relationships which suggest he found gay people paradoxical at best.
So yeah, pretty sure the dude implied to only be getting close to Suletta to get access to her Gundam isn't the greatest guy if this is the philosopher they decided to introduce him with.
And no, I don't expect people to recognize what he's reading from that shot alone. But people pointed this out week one and you'd think by now it would have made the rounds enough to be picked up by people.
Hot take, but maybe, just maybe, the wealthy privileged children of execs hoping to forcefully possess a girl that wants nothing to do with them or her father's company in order to get said company are intentionally meant as not great people.
Some people, in various quote tweets, have questioned me calling Schopenhauer a fascist. You're free to disagree, but I will add that I technically restrained myself in not calling him more things to that effect.
"Technically he'd be proto-fascist."
Okay, yes, fine. But a proto-fascist is just a retroactive fascist in the end, especially when talking about how their work would be used in the context of something like "let's introduce our character reading his work."
With that I won't be talking further about this subject, I mainly wanted to point out that Elan is set up to not be the nice boy Suletta thinks he is because after Guel's actions this week some people started going "at least Elan is good."

Reminder that the duel at the start of episode 1 where Suletta nearly got hit was mid-class because Guel said some other random student had "laughed" at him over Miorine trying to run away.
His proposal was also entirely him acting on selfish pride, hoping to win something.
Seriously, stop trying to suggest Guel is something he's not. He's a prideful misogynist man, he's *intended* to be that.
He might grow into something better, but he's not there yet and he's clearly not interested in having said growth take place just yet.
It's really fucked up how the students seemingly don't think that Miorine having her autonomy stripped and being turned into a trophy to be won by the elite makes her a victim. It's like they think she deserves or wants that role.
Yes, she is Spacian and the heir to the corporate big chair, but let's be real, her dad isn't planning on letting her be in charge, that's what the entire duel trophy thing is for. But everyone we've seen apart from Suletta just seem to not even consider Miorine's situation.
It's why I can't judge her too harshly for that tactless "that makes you just as bad as those who oppress Earthians" comment, because to her both Spacians and Earthians treat her like she's not a human being. At school she's only "above" Earthians as a possession.
