OTOH, Scottish Council on Human Bioethics & an extensive report from a senior paediatrician. OTO, gov funded, ideologically-driven, non-medical lobby groups. Guess which one @scotgov@ScotGovFM listens to?! They've prob had enough of experts. #No2SelfID thetimes.co.uk/article/scotti…
We wonder if @MaggieChapman or @Cmacf76 are going to pick up the bill for the Local Authorities and the Scottish NHS when the inevitable negligence claims begin. We wonder why they presume to think they know better than Hillary Cass and the Council of Human Bioethics?
Dr Calum MacKellar said: “The proposals in the bill are unreasonable since the latest and most comprehensive studies to date [2022] show that a high prevalence of mental disorders, such as autism spectrum traits, often exist in persons with gender dysphoria/incongruence.
“If the Scottish parliament accepts this bill from the government, and removes the protection provided by a medical opinion before gender transitioning takes place, this will inevitably lead to some young Scottish persons being harmed.” thetimes.co.uk/article/holyro…
"Puberty blockers have known serious side effects, with uncertainty about their long-term use. They do not improve mental health. Without medication, most will desist from the dysphoria in time. Yet over 90% of those treated with puberty blockers progress to cross-sex hormones/
"and often surgery, with irreversible consequences. The brain is biologically and socially immature in childhood and unlikely to understand the long-term consequences of treatment. The prevailing culture to affirm the dysphoria is critically reviewed./
"It is concluded that children are unable to consent to the use of puberty blockers."
From a paper by the chair of the council in June of this year - which they have also ignored! tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
In preference, @S_A_Somerville is standing by this, "basically a fatter version of the old LGBT Youth document, riddled with the same problematic theories and the same potentially dangerous and discriminatory advice." thecritic.co.uk/total-dummies/
Complaints are met with a get out of jail free card, with the gov claiming it's "non statutory".
Fine, but it carries the Gov's imprint and, if implemented, someone, somewhere will have to carry the can and explain why they preferred this to real research & experts.

This is shocking & chilling. Tomorrow, MSPs will vote on GRR, @NicolaSturgeon will tell us this has nothing to do with the vote. That will be a lie. @NHSScotland has betrayed vulnerable children on the watch of this Gov in the name of a cultural shift. 🧵telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/10/2…
"A gender identity clinic’ branded “Sturgeon’s Tavistock” has been offering patients irreversible sex-change treatments despite senior clinicians admitting that its methods are not backed by “robust evidence”, a leaked recording showed."
"A consultant clinical psychologist at Sandyford openly admitted at an online NHS event in June that there were huge gaps in evidence around trans healthcare and claimed that work was ongoing to find “a robust evidence base for the treatment that we offer”.
"If any woman or girl suffers voyeurism, sexual harassment, assault or rape in consequence of the Scottish government’s lax new rules, the blame will rest squarely with those at Holyrood who ignored safeguarding experts and women’s campaigners." thetimes.co.uk/article/jk-row…
Thank you @jk_rowling for being in this fight with us and for your voice.
"Sturgeon [argues] that it’s transphobic to suggest any man would fraudulently claim a female identity. This claim is extraordinary. Nobody but the very naive can fail to be aware that predatory men are capable of going to great lengths to gain easy access to victims"
"Like most women in politics, Eddie’s policies have been side-lined in favour of talk about her appearance, misogynistic comments and doubts over her ability to do her job because of her gender." Nobody who writes that in non-parodic fashion is a feminist! metro.co.uk/2022/10/14/im-…
Honestly, Metro, we already have Pink News for misogynistic claptrap and idiocy. You won't beat them, but you will make yourselves look very silly!
We've been testing the claim that Nicola Sturgeon made on @BBCr4today@BBCScotlandNews@LBCNews and others about her history of feminist action.
We thought we'd look at the easy stuff, the bare minimum for an MSP; supporting motions. Thread
We searched on the Parliament website for motions with key words from 1999 when parliament opened and Sturgeon was elected to 2007 when she became a minister (and unable to add her name).
First we tried "international women's day"
This returned motions relating to victims of trafficking or domestic abuse. Familiar names, like Johann Lamont, Elaine Smith, Pauline McNeil, Sandra White, Kenny Gibson, etc reappear. Curiously, not the "real" feminist FM.
Most people who want to work at children's charities are not paedophiles or apologists. You might say they only represent a "tiny number" but children's charities are attractive to them for obvious reasons & so, we safeguard to mitigate this risk.
Or we should. When people start to think that identity or ideology matters more than safeguards, people will slip between the cracks.
If you claim to know that abusive men are an issue, why would you introduce a law that makes it impossible to weed out bad faith actors? #R4Today
During the committee stage of the GRR, it was clear there was no appetite for the suggestion that even those with prior convictions for sex offences should not be eligible.
Evidently, you believe sex offenders can, genuinely, wish to obtain a GRA. #R4Today
The Manifesto features a series of "demands" which are often wildly contradictory (no more clinics but surgery on tap) and never less than disturbing, but, in essence, boil down to unregulated & free body modification./ edinburghath.tumblr.com/post/163521055…
One might think this was just a fringe group of extremists, but ATH were taxpayer-funded & gave evidence to the Westminster inquiry on GRA. Bradley, the director, was cited in the report which adopted some of Bradley's recommendations./ thetimes.co.uk/article/action…
