Surya Dev's children.

1/x

You must have heard #BhaiDooj is a festival which started with Yam visiting his sister Yamuna. Both happen to be Surya Dev's children. We know Shani Dev is also his child. So, how many children does Surya Dev have?

Read thread. Pls RT.

2/x

Surya Dev was married to Sanjana, Vishwakarma's daughter. Through this wedlock, three children : Vaivasvata Manu, Yama (The Lord of Death) and Yami.

However, Sanjana found Surya Dev's heat intolerable. So, she left for her father's house asking Chhaya to take her place.
3/x

Since Chhaya looked just like Sanjana, everything went normal for Surya Dev and his three children. By Chhaya, Surya Dev had three more children: Savarnamanu, Shani (famously, Saturn) and Tapti.

Chhaya visibly discriminated between her and Sanjana's children.
4/x

The relations between step-siblings was highly troubled. Yama once kicked Shani in rage and he became lame. Chhaya then cursed Yama which is a different story.

The relations b/w step-sisters Yami & Tapti were bad. So much that Tapti cursed Yami to become a river on earth.
5/x

Yami became Yamuna on earth and Tapti ia known as River Tapti.

So, this was the story of siz children of Surya. Apart from them, Surya was also the father of Karna, a widely known character in Mahabharat. Story of his birth isn't needed to be told, it being already famous.
6/x

Sugriva's birth was the consequence of an other incidence.

Once Rishi Mandaya was wrongly implicated/accused in theft & was hanged by spike and left to die with other thieves. A lady named Sheelvati was carrying her husband and she accidentally touched the lingering Rishi.
7/x

Rishi, already troubled by spikes, cursed that Sheelvati's husband wouldn't see the next sunrise. The lady calmly replied that the Sun would not rise. She was immensely devoted to her husband. The Sun actually didn't rise for days - Devas persuaded her through Mata Anusuya.
8/x

This is, again, a different story and eventually, Surya rose again. However, when Surya was not able to rise due to curse, Aruna, his charioteer, had sometime off from work and desired to roam. So, he took a female form and wandered in Swarga Loka. Indra fell for the beauty.
9/x

This union of Devraj Indra and Aruni (female form of Aruna) had one child from it famously known as Baali, who later ruled Kishkindha.

Aruna returned to Surya Lok and narrated the incident. Surya Dev could hardly believe the series of events his charioteer told him.
10/10

Aruna again took female form to convince Surya Dev. Surya Dev too fell for the resplendent beauty. Their union produced another son - Sugriva.

Both Bali and Sugriva weren't initially Vanaras. This story some other time.

Hope that now you know all of Surya Dev's children.

*Thread on Astrology Books*

In this thread, I will slowly keep recommending very good Hindi/Eng books on Astrology which I've read partly/fully. Mentioned books will cover wide range of topics. Books will also cover fresh entrants.

Please RT this tweet to help others. 🙏
Book 1: Vedic Astrology - An Integrated Approach
1.1
Authored by Sh. PVR Narasimha Rao, a very good book (in English) for people who are fresh to astrology. Opening with this book because its soft copy at no cost is also made available by the author (vedicastrologer.org/articles/astro…).
1.2

Hard copy of this book can also be purchased online, and little study every day can make a totally new student well acquainted with many concepts of astrology.

If you want to start your journey in Jyotish, start with hard copy, else use soft copy. Good luck!

Very often we see a name being attributed to a Vikrami Samvatsar and wonder how those names are attributed. There are 60 names but I am sharing a very easy method to determine name of the ongoing Samvatsar.

Please RT after understanding.
2/3

Process:-

Add 9 to the Samvat, then divide by 60. The remainder gives us the name of last Samvatsar, the one next to it is the ongoing.

For example, let's find out the name of Vikrami Samvat 2064. Adding 9 to it, we get 2073. Diving it by 60, we get 33 as remainder.
3/3

So, 33 Samvatsars have passed and the 34th Samvatsar is going on. In the list attached with the first tweet, the Samvat at 34th number is Sharvari, which is the name we wanted to find out.

Now the ongoing Samvat is 2079. Follow the above process to find out its name.

Got a message having concern if Mahabharat can be kept at home.

My answer is simple: Yes, no scripture prohibits keeping and reading Mahabharat at home. In fact, reading it has been appreciated in them. Keeping MBT at home causes disputes is a lie stuffed over generations.
2/x

Sometime back, I happened to meet a Vastu expert. Among things to be not kept at home, the first thing he stated was Mahabharat. I was astounded to realize that even Jyotishis, Vastu experts have fallen for this propaganda which keeps MBT away from us.
3/x

Explaining him was futile, but I gave my try. He then told me some Vaastu books actually mentioned this fact. But when I asked for corroboration from our scriptures, there is no answer.

They rather ask me to show the proof of scriptures endorsing reading MBT at home.

Thread for those anxious about the apprehension that #RussianUkrainianWar could trigger #thirdworldwar.

Please learn the principle that big wars in any era commence only when Saturn transits in/around Krittika or Rohini Nakshatra, which means we are about 8 yrs away.
2/3

Saturn in Krittika and Jupiter in Vishakha is very dangerous combination, specially when world sits on a fragile frame. This combination too will come at stroke of next decade (& I've discussed it in fast). Then Saturn in Rohini has always been a feared transit.
3/3

The combinations I stated above have been stated and tested by learned Jyotishis across many centuries. No one knows future barring Vidhata, but it is His will which is reflected through Grahas and Nakshatras.

So until end of this decade, we can stop worrying about WW3.
