I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: #ElonMusk’s ownership of twitter is going to turn out to be one of the most consequential political events of this century. This will have serious implications for disputes, wars & civil strife everywhere, from Taiwan to Tigray.
Twitter is now an important part of the economy. Many, many orgs & individuals depend on it for their most basic survival — especially non-profits. They are all now at the mercy of one very rich, whimsical man. #elonmusktwitter
Perhaps more importantly, no propaganda tool in the modern age has proved as effective at creating unrest or quelling protests as Twitter. Now, governments can simply appease one very rich, whimsical man to help them kill & oppress millions of people, wage wars etc. #ELONMUSK
This should NEVER have been allowed to happen. It sounds like gross overreach to say that the international community should have scuppered a business deal, but this is no ordinary “business deal”. It’s a historic political event with far-reaching implications. #elonmusktwitter

For the first time in my life, I think there is nothing for India to celebrate on its Independence Day. If it hadn’t been for wise leaders during the first decade after independence, India would have looked like Afghanistan. But the Republic they built is now nowhere to be seen.
India’s republic has been in decline for a few years, but never had India sunk lower than in the past year: lies & deceit during the pandemic, and communalism & bigotry dominating our society. Our freedom fighters have been let down. We have nothing to be proud of as a generation
Here’s a recap of India’s 74th year of freedom: bodies dumped on the banks of the Ganga; lies over shortage of oxygen, vaccines & beds; mass spying on citizens with costly, imported military-grade spyware; chants in Delhi calling for genocide of Muslims; and more.
It’s difficult to escape the fact that @DrSJaishankar was lying about the Philippines not needing oxygen. It’s a lie with far too many holes: to start, they actually opened the gates for the IYC volunteers. So if the man would lie about this, can he be believed about anything?
And it wasn’t even something he really needed to lie about. He could easily have come off looking graceful if he’d just thanked the IYC volunteers for their national service & then said MEA is creating a helpline for embassies, coordinating supply etc. But no. He lied instead.
If @PMOIndia has any sense of leadership, for this blatant lie itself, @DrSJaishankar deserves to be fired. He has no moral authority to continue as a minister. And if I was in the top brass of the IFS, I would certainly resign in disgust. There has to be accountability.
I strongly support the cause of making the following (and only these) free: education (incl university), healthcare, drinking water & air. Every citizen should have equal opportunity to build themselves. The govt wastes too much money on other needless things & doesn’t do its job
The next time someone says “but the govt doesn’t have money to spend on education, healthcare, water or air” (1/n)
