@heartof_mary I call “totalism” the system which, based on a true theological conclusion that the “Vatican II popes” cannot be true popes (based on the Church’s indefectibility), and which conclusion is loosely called “sedevacantism”, then jumps unduly to other conclusions, which are…
@heartof_mary that all the Vatican II popes and bishops are all deposed, that the “Novus Ordo” is a non Catholic sect, in the sense of canon 2314 (some going as far as calling sspx a non Catholic sect too), and that ultimately the apostolocity of jurisdiction must be somehow preserved by sedes
@heartof_mary hence they more or less explicitly believe in conclavism.
And by “deposed”, they mean that the Vatican II popes and bishops are deposed in a canonical sense, without the need of any canonical investigation and acknowledgement.
@heartof_mary Everyone. of. them.
Just by signing V2 or something.
Totalism should thus really be called ecclesiological nihilism, imo.
@heartof_mary Many Catholics hold to totalism in good faith, I presume, but sadly it has become “main stream” sedevacatism in the USA for the past decade.
Most R&R will never even consider sedevacantism seriously because they associate it with the false principles of “totalism.”
@heartof_mary I consider totalism to be absolutely false, obviously. And I consider it to be “guts theology”, meaning it has no foundation in theology, history, or Canon Law.
I consider it potentially dangerous, if people were to think it through and apply its logical consequences.
@heartof_mary The logical consequence being fomenting schism, if one were to start a conclave.
“Fomenting schism” are not my words, do not shoot the messenger. I am only repeating the words of the Council of Constance, session XXXIX, for those who would start such a conclave.
@heartof_mary Totalism has only become popular because it is easy to grasp and present succinctly, and thus answer the craving for an easy view of the crisis. But the V2 crisis is not a simple thing. If it were, no one would have been deceived.
I don’t think totalism will survive long though.
