Odisha was devastated by a super cyclone on this date in 1999, that left close to 20k dead, massive losses to property, people homeless, whole villages washed away by the raging sea waters. A terrible tragedy in so many ways. #LestWeForgetIndia
Considered one of the most severe cyclones of the 20th century, as Odisha's coastal districts of Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Puri, Jajpur were hit badly, along with Mayurbhanj, Keonjarh, Nayagarh and Dhenkanal.
Jagatsinghpur was the worst hit district, with 8000 fatalities, the two blocks of Erasma,Kujang accounting for most of the destruction. The next largest number of fatalities were in Puri, Kendrapada and Cuttack.
Bhubaneshwar was hit badly, with power, telecommunication links cut off, the city was thrown into darkness, trees uprooted. Paradip Port too was badly hit, with most of the warehouses, transmission systems badly damaged.
Many coastal villages were washed away by the raging sea waves, some of the fishing trawlers were lifted inland and deposited there. Road to Paradip was lined with sand dunes. Heritage site of Konark was flooded for 6 days.
Congress Govt then in Odisha completely messed up the relief operations, most of the ministers and MLAs were missing, there is a good reason why Congress has been out of power since last 2 decades in the state.
Even worse were the NGOs most of whom made a fortune out of the devastation, by claiming to work for relief. While aid never really reached the affected, most of those who worked in these foreign NGOs, made a good amount of money.
Most of these NGO activists in Odisha, ensured they bought nice homes and cars for themselves in Bhubaneshwar. And ever since then they have been making a nice fortune, while keeping the state perenially backward.
In a way this devastating super cyclone helped Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, to come up with better cyclone warning systems, relief, evacuation measures, that has helped them handle more intense storms later on.

Ukkirapandi Muthuramalingam Thevar aka Pasumpon Thevar, close associate of Netaji, who fought to get the Criminal Tribes Act repealed, and played a major role in spreading INA down South.

Of the many discriminatory laws that the British enacted, during their reign, one of the most notorious ones was the Criminal Tribes Act of 1871. It was ostensibly created to control criminal groups like the Thugees.
However it ended up as an effective measure to penalize communities and tribes, whom the British believe mutinied against them in the Great Revolt of 1857. Basically, the tribes that were classified under CTA were mainly nomadic ones, making a living as petty traders, gypsies.
They have already said it's not a religious matter, and just some neighbour dispute. They will close the case stating so, I only hope the Hindu organisations keep up the pressure, that family should not be allowed to get away lightly.
That lowlife family should not even be allowed in the apartment, matter of fact in any sane society. Should be socially boycotted made to regret every moment of their existence. My only hope is with the Hindu organisations who turned up and ensured an FIR was filed.
Had enough of these "converts" and their antics. With the backing of their church, they have become a total nuisance. Request @ShivaShakthiOrg to please follow up on this case and keep the pressure on.
Seeing some handles here sympathize with that Vijaya Gadde female, saying she was targeted coz she's Indian. She left India long back, hasn't even tried to connect to her Indian roots, she is as American as can be.
This Vijaya Gadde was one of the main persons behind Jack holding up that stupid Smash Brahminical patriarchy card. It was under her tenure Twitter went full Left Lib, targeting accounts that didn't align at all with the Left Lib POV. No tears need be shed for her.
But worst of all was this Vijaya Gadde female refusing to take down a child pornography post, even after the victim's parents repeatedly complained about it. That poor kid was so traumatized when the post went virally. Twitter turned into a semi porn site during her time.
Typically when we speak of the Holkar dynasty of Indore, the focus is more on it's founder Malhar Rao Holkar, and the great queen Ahilyabai Holkar, but not much is known about Yashwant Rao Holkar, the last of it's great rulers.
Thread on his death anniversary today.
Yashwant Rao Holkar, the last of the great Marathas , who took on the British, attempted to forge a common united front against them, but was let down by self centered rulers who could not look beyond their petty rivalries.
Ahilyabai Holkar had passed away on August 13, 1795 leading to a succession crisis. Her son Male Rao, had passed away earlier in 1767, due to mental sickness. It was at this juncture that her faithful commander in chief Tukoji Rao Holkar took charge.

The great warrior was born as Lachmann Dev on October 1670 in Jammu’s Rajouri region to a Rajput family. It is believed he took to Sanyas, after seeing a pregant doe, he shot, writhing in pain and dying.
He met a Sadhu named Janaki Das and became his disciple, adopting the name of Madho Das. After travelling all over the North, he finally settled on the banks of the Godavari near Nanded.
