An Iranian history and/or #IranRevolution 101:
The murder of #MahsaAmini reignited a revolution that has actually been building since 2017. Here is the background

In the 1960's there was a massive expansion of women's rights in Iran under the Shah. One cleric became famous for his opposition to this, building up a base of radical islamists before being exiled. His name was Ruhollah Khomeini (First Supreme Leader)

European socialists hated the Shah and love revolutions, so when they found an Iranian exile with a large following raving about making sing and dancing illegal and the proper way to have sex with a camel (really), they taught him how to speak to (trick) Western media

With the help of the international socialist movement Khomeini broadcasted messages back into Iran promising basically free everything: Free gas, free oil, and Free GDP (he didn't understand what the GDP was).

The revolution really kicked off when Khomeini's supporters locked hundreds of people in the Cinema Rex, burned it down and blamed it on the Shah.
The Islamic Republic admits to this and says it was justified and those who died are glorious martyrs blah blah blah

The Shah was toppled in 1979, Khomeini took power and put a referendum to the people: Islamic Republic Yes or No.
The people were told that it would be a Republic like France was a republic, they were lied to.
PS Michel Foucault celebrated this as the first post-modern revolution

The next 10 years were defined by a reign of terror on dissidents, religious minorities and anyone the Islamic Republic didn't like. The socialists were ironically the first to be mass murdered.
This culminated in the mass executions of 1988 under the guise of the Iran-Iraq war

The Islamic Republic is a totalitarian theocracy run by the Supreme leader. But there is a complicated fake democracy put on top of it that sells a false narrative to the West of "Hardliners" and "Reformists".

To sell the lie of false moderates and reformists to the West the Islamic Republic created the #IranLobby and groups like NIAC and the Quincey Institute.
Their job is to claim that appeasement of the IR empowers the "Reformist Movement". But it is all a scam.

This brings us to the 2009 Green Movement where the people voted for a "reformist" (Mousavi) but the regime needed a "hardliner" (Ahmadinejad) at the moment.
This was mainly a student protest against the false democracy, It was crushed brutally as the Obama admin stood by.

The Obama admin, which was full of IR regime supporters, gave the IR everything they wanted (sanctions relief and the JCPOA). Not one cent of that freed up money went to the people of Iran, instead Hamas, Hezbollah and Yemeni Houthis got the $ to start wars and chaos

In 2016 party time for the regime was over as Trump came into office, tore up the JCPOA and reinstated sanctions. The Islamic Republic was furious, the people of Iran celebrated.

Empowered by the new administration nation wide protests broke out across Iran officially calling for regime change.
The general message of this protest was "Hard-liners, Reformists your game is up." AKA you're the same.
This was quelled by the regime, but the damage was done

In 2019 more mass protests broke out in a similar vein. This time the general slogan was "No to Gaza, no to Lebanon, my life for Iran" AKA the money you give to the IR just goes to a bunch of terrorists not us, get ride of the Islamic republic.

These protests were widespread and gaining momentum, despite the brutal crackdown in #BloodyNovemebr when the IR killed at least 3000 peaceful protestors just that month. It was only with the outbreak of covid was the regime able to import it and use it as an excuse to lockdown

Now that covid is over the murder of Mahsa Amini has reignited the flame that was burning in 2020. The people are in full revolution. They are fighting back against Basijis, burning down IRGC HQs and going on massive strikes to basically self-sanction the country.

I believe the revolution will be successful, but the speed and mitigation of lose of life depends on the support of foreign governments. The Democrats, Liberal party of Canada and the EU are all being the useful idiots of the Regime and need to support the people over the IR

To recap: This is about "Women, Life and Freedom". The people want REGIME CHANGE, not sanctions relief or the JCPOA.
And most importantly, this is a REVOLUTION not just a protest.
