@YanzhongHuang While the video is less Sinister Plot Against the West than OP implies with his dishonest translation. It perfectly illustrates the deeply flawed “just do what you’re told and don’t ask us to explain anything” approach that has caused so many problems.

@YanzhongHuang For the dim-witted who persist in attending to my replies with such diligence-

I'm not saying that what the speaker actually said was better- it's not, I'm saying the translation was grossly inaccurate.

@YanzhongHuang I will say that his speech is far milder in Chinese than in English. If you are a fan of K-Dramas you will often see similar "don't question me, I'm your superior" interactions and it's just something you get in strictly hierarchal cultures that comes across badly in English.

@YanzhongHuang Some translations require enormous cultural context that can't be contained in a few sentences. Many Americans can't understand "BLM", for Chinese it sounds terrible unless you put in an hour with a whiteboard and citations.

@YanzhongHuang This is incidentally, why I've long argued that the absolute best tools for reaching a Mainland audience would be to fund top fansub teams that are able to provide deep context on a huge range of topics. (and my partner and I, in fact got sundowned in Ili)
