One mishap and Wei Ying finds himself tumbling over and withering in pain.
His teammates surrounds him immediately and their coach follows in tow.
“Wei Wuxian, are you okay?”
Groggily, he sits up. Every muscle within him strains upon
the sudden action.
A series of gasps and whispers leave his teammates. Their eyes are focused on his ankle, which is contorted in a completely abnormal way.
—
“6 weeks to heal?!” Wei Ying yells in disbelief.
The doctor gives him a pointed look. “It’s a severe sprain.”
“I can’t be out for 6 weeks! We have to prepare for our game and I’m team captain. They need me on the field.”
“If you want your ankle to heal properly then I suggest you rest and avoid putting pressure on the swelling.” The doctor casually says, shrugging off Wei Ying’s
complaints.
“There are going to be scouts present. If I’m out then it’ll ruin my chance for nationals.” He throws his arms in exasperation.
The doctor sighs. Removing his glasses, he tucks them inside of his coat and sits beside Wei Ying.
“Rest and relax. You do know that I
am working for the both of us?”
Wei Ying stares at him with puppy eyes. “But Lan Zhan…” he pouts, “I don’t want you working all the time.”
Lan Zhan takes his hands into his own—running smooth circles around his knuckles. “I studied hard so that I can provide for us.”
“I know,” mumbles Wei Ying. “I just feel bad that you have to constantly take care of me.”
“Taking care of you is what makes me happy,” assures Lan Zhan.
“Well now you have extra care to do,” he looks at his bandaged ankle and small dash of disappointment
befalls him.
But his boyfriend has keen eyes and notices the change in his eyes. Lan Zhan places a kisses on his cheek—brushing away the negative thoughts.
“Extra care means extra spoils for Wei Ying.”
Lan Zhan’s words extracts a smile from him. Heat rises from his
cheeks to his ears and he nuzzles closer.
“I guess some time off won’t be so bad. Especially if that means I’ll be able to spend more time with you.”
—
Before he knows it and due to Lan Zhan’s care and nurture, Wei Ying’s back on his feet a week before his first game.
He spends extra time practicing and training from morning until night.
Even though it’s tiring, he continues to motivate himself by thinking of Lan Zhan.
All of his work pays off when news of his success is announced. Wei Ying and his team did not only
make it to nationals, but they placed first in the competition.
In the midst of the celebration and cheering, Wei Ying searches for Lan Zhan.
When he spots his boyfriend in the crowd, he feels his heart slow.
Lan Zhan stands like a diamond among jewels—radiating in
upmost beauty. Wei Ying dashes over and jumps into his embrace. Lan Zhan welcomes him, securing Wei Ying in his arms.
“Congratulations, Wei Ying.”
“Thank you, Lan Zhan. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
Lan Zhan pulls away to look at him. Tucking the loose strands
of hair behind him, he leans in and kisses him. It’s a soft brush of their lips, but enough to send a series of sparks between them.
Wei Ying completely melts against him. In a soft tone—full of mischief—he whispers, “I’ll be the one to take care of you tonight.”

"It never turns out well Wei Ying, you know this."
A petulant sigh leaves him as he slides into his desk chair. "Then how do you plan on interrogating him?"
"I have my ways."
Surely enough, the culprit confessed to his crimes—adding another solved case onto Lan Zhan's pile.
"That's not fair." Wei Ying complains that night they arrive back home. "Now I'm two cases behind you."
"This was a joint capture."
"Yeah but you got most of the credit so
now I have to catch up."
"Or," Lan Zhan's voice hitches. "You can just admit you lost."
"Lan Zhan," he pointedly says. "We've been married for three years and dated for 5. You really think I'll give up a bet, especially when it's against you?"
