1/ Russian targeting of power infrastructure in Ukraine has expanded to systematically hit open switchgear associated with hydroelectric power stations and the boilers of thermal power plants, in an attempt to reduce overall resilience, according to the Rybar Telegram channel. ⬇️ Image
2/ In a series of posts, Rybar analyses the impact of today's missile strikes. It comments that the aim of the attacks was "to deprive the enemy of the opportunity to compensate for the energy deficit" resulting from previous attacks. The targets included:
3/ 💥 An open switchgear of the Kaniv hydroelectric power station in the Cherkasy region.

Rybar comments: "The hydroelectric power station is located on the middle reaches of the Dnipro, helps to compensate for the energy shortage in the Kyiv region ...
4/ and at the same time has the ability to transfer the generated electricity to the east of the country through the switchgear of the Kremenchuk hydroelectric power station."
5/ 💥 An open switchgear at Kremenchuk hydroelectric power station (HPP).

Rybar comments: "This is the third HPP on the Dniepro with a capacity of 686 MW.
6/ Power consumers in the east and centre of the country are supplied from the HPP through an open switchgear of 330 kV.
7/ The switchgear itself is a key point of the 330 kV high-voltage line stretching through Kryvyi Rih (PS Pervomaiskyi 330), Cherkasy (PS Cherkasy 330) and the east of the country (SS Kremenchuk 330).
8/ A blow to the substation reduces the possibility of transmitting electricity to the industrial areas of Kryvyi Rih, Cherkasy, Poltava and part of Kharkiv regions."
9/ 💥 The boiler room of Prydniprovska thermal power plant (TPP).

Rybar comments: "Judging by reports from the field, the station has ceased to function: there is no smoke from the main two pipes.
10/ Strikes on boilers at a power plant are the most critical, since the boilers themselves are quite large, high pressure is created in them, and damage is very difficult to eliminate.
11/ In addition to the failure of boilers at the Pridneprovska TPP, damage to process pipelines is possible: this creates even more difficulties in organizing repair and restoration work.
12/ The disabling of the Prydniprovska TPP, along with today's attack on the switchgear of the Dniepro hydroelectric power station, further complicates the situation with the electricity supply in eastern Ukraine."
13/ 💥 The 330 kV Pravoberezhna substation, connected with the Dnipro hydroelectric power station (DniproGES).

Rybar comments: "The Dnipro HPP is the most powerful of the power plants located on the Dnipro (capacity 1548 MW).
14/ A large node provided a significant role in the generation of the region after the shutdown of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.
15/ Wherever the rockets hit, the damage will still be significant, since it will still be extremely difficult to use it at full load – even if the generators were not damaged."
16/ 💥 The Zalyutyne 330kV substation in Kharkiv region.
17/ Rybar comments: "The substation was already hit – autotransformers were put out of action each time (although in total there were already more hits than autotransformers at the substation, but these are mere nuances).
18/ Zalyutino Substation provides electricity transmission from Kharkiv Combined Heat-and-Power Plant (CHPP) No. 5 and Zmiivska TPP. After the strikes, trams, trolleybuses and the metro stopped working in the city, and electricity was partially lost."
19/ 💥 The Vyshhorod 110/10/6 kV substation, connected to the Kyiv hydroelectric power station.

Rybar comments: "Kyiv HPP is a large power plant on the Dnipro with a capacity of 440 MW, the very first in the Ukrainian HPP cascade.
20/ It feeds the power system of Kyiv through the Vyshhorod 110/10/6 kV substation.

A blow to the substation will reduce the possibility of using it to stabilize the power supply to consumers in Kyiv and the north of the Kyiv region."
21/ 💥 Open switchgear of the Dniester HPP-1 in western Ukraine.

Rybar comments: "Dniester HPP-1 is the most powerful power plant on the Dniester cascade (702 MW). Along with the Ladyzhinska TPP, it is the main source of energy in the southwest of the country.
22/ Through the 330 kV outdoor switchgear, which is the most important nodal point of energy distribution, energy is distributed in the south of Ukraine, there is a 330 kV transit line to the Chernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
23/ It is not yet known where exactly the impact occurred, but judging by the smoke, the 330/110 kV autotransformer was most likely hit." /end

1/ Did Wagner mercenaries execute one of their own men and try to extort the wrong set of relatives to sell the corpse back to them? The story of Sergei Serbezov suggests that Wagner's recruitment of criminals is leading to more crimes against their own side. Thread follows. ⬇️ Image
2/ Serbezov is a Ukrainian citizen who was sentenced in 2020 to 9 years and 9 months' imprisonment for drugs offences. He was put in the IK-10 penal colony in Saratov oblast in south-west Russia.
3/ According to Serbezov's wife, IK-10 was visited by Wagner Group recruiters after the war started. They told the prisoners that they were being forcibly mobilised "whether they wanted to or not". If true, this is unusual, as Wagner seems to have relied on volunteers elsewhere.

1/ With the dismissal of Colonel-General Aleksandr Lapin as the commander of Russia's Central Military District, ugly stories are emerging about his treatment of mobilised soldiers. He's said to have put his pistol to the head of a lieutenant and threatened to shoot him. ⬇️
2/ Mediazona reports that on 13 October, Lapin violently confronted Lieutenant Dmitry Vodnev, who withdrew his company from shelling at the village of Kolomyichykha, near Svatove in Luhansk oblast. The back story has emerged from the account of another soldier published by SOTA.
3/ Like many other mobiks, Vodnev's men were not given a medical examination or combat training after being mobilised into the 423rd Yampolsky motorized rifle regiment around 22 September. They were given only 1 day's shooting practice at a military camp in Belgorod.

1/ Russian investigators believe the high-speed crash of an Su-30SM fighter jet in Irkutsk on 23 October may have been due to the aircraft's oxygen system malfunctioning, causing the two crew members to suffer a fatal case of hypoxia. Thread ⬇️
2/ Media reports say that the Eastern Interregional Investigation Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case for "violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of air transport" based on early findings.
3/ According to the investigators, the aircraft's oxygen system most likely malfunctioned, causing a lack of oxygen, an excess of it, or accidental contamination of the oxygen with nitrogen. This could have caused the two-man crew to both lose consciousness at the same time.
