1. Trading Roquan Smith is the sort of tough decision no previous GM would've had the guts to make.

Ryan Poles understands the modern NFL.

Off-the-ball LBs don't impact games like 30 years ago.

Smith is having his best year and the #Bears still have the 2nd-worst run defense.
2. Chicago now has 9 projected picks in 2023, including four in the first three rounds.

1st
2nd
2nd (BLT)
3rd
4th
4th (PHI)
5th
5th (BLT)
7th
7th comp*

Based on his first draft, Poles has a chance to completely reshape the foundation of this team.

#Bears
3. What makes this even better is the emergence of Justin Fields.

In the past 4 games, he has completed 64% of his passes with 5 TDs, 2 INTs, and a 97.6 passer rating.

He did this against three top 15 defenses with turnstiles for OL and high school gym teachers for WRs. #Bears
4. The craziest part is Fields is also on pace for 901 yards rushing.

He is within striking distance of Bobby Douglass' single-season record of 968.

This isn't just a one-trick pony. He's morphing into a complete QB, and that is terrifying if you're other NFL teams.

#Bears
5. Is Poles done?

Two players remain that are fetching trade interest.

David Montgomery is a FA in 2023 and he's been overtaken by Khalil Herbert.

Eddie Jackson had 4 INTs in 8 games and is still in his prime.

The #Bears don't HAVE to trade either, but they're listening.
6. The #Bears offensive line is on track to allow 65 sacks this season.

The defensive line is on track to have 16 sacks.

It isn't rocket science to guess where the team will focus its resources next spring.
7. #Bears wide receivers and tight ends now have a combined 8 dropped passes this season.

That ranks them 10th-worst in the NFL.

With all due respect to Darnell Mooney and Cole Kmet, they are #2 options at their respective positions.

This team needs #1 guys.
8. Jaquan Brisker has 51 tackles, three sacks, and an interception.

In eight games.

As a rookie.

If he is the first taste of what's to come, the #Bears defense will be fine.

1a. People are acting like Ryan Poles sabotaged this roster.

That's because he did.

He torpedoed it, replacing almost 2/3rds of the personnel.

His opinion was evident from the moment he took over.

It was bad and would likely have to get worse before getting better. #Bears
1b. The truth is nobody would be complaining about Poles' strategy if Justin Fields weren't on this roster.

His presence complicates everything.

The development clock on him began even before Poles arrived.

The GM was in a lose-lose situation. #Bears
1c. Poles was expected to do what JAX and the Jets did for Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson.

This despite having neither the money nor multiple 1st round picks to do so.

Forget the public messages. He knew this year would be bad. In fact, he was probably counting on it. #Bears

1. Justin Fields has 28 passes through two games. It is really difficult to judge a QB like that.

He’s far from perfect but everything about this offense screams work-in-progress.

The best thing for everybody is to wait until the end of October. We should have answers by then.
2. Really hate to say this because he seems like a great kid.

Cole Kmet isn’t the guy at tight end.

Good tight ends don’t need constant scheming to get open. They also catch the ball.

He’s developing into a very good blocker, but the #Bears need more from the passing game.
3. The far bigger surprise through two games is Darnell Mooney.

He should not be this invisible.

Two catches through two games is bad. Really bad.

One has to hope Velus Jones’ return can bring some juice to the passing game. #Bears

1. The secret to the #Bears beating the Packers has never been complicated.

Want the answer? Check out the turnover margin for each time they won in the Aaron Rodgers era.

2008 - 2-2
2010 - 2-1
2013 - 1-0
2015 - 2-0
2018 - 1-1

They've never won on the wrong side of it.
2. The #Bears are 3-2 in their last five meetings with the Packers where the QB didn't throw an interception.

For all the talk about Rodgers this and Rodgers that, the fact is the Bears QBs have been grossly inefficient against Green Bay.

Justin Fields had three INTs last year.
3. It was frustrating the #Bears didn't weaponize Fields' legs more last year against the Packers.

He ran the ball 15 times for 107 yards last year against them.

Tyler Huntley had 73 yards against them in one game. for Baltimore.

Get him out of the pocket.

1. Since the start of 2019, the #Bears offense has failed to crack 250 total yards for a game nine times.

Matt Nagy might be one of the best snake oil salesmen in recent memory.
1a. Justin Fields was asked to run a traditional West Coast-style offense on Sunday from the pocket against one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL.

If people needed evidence that Nagy is married to his system and will never change?

There you go. #Bears
1b. The #Bears have never fired a head coach midseason before.

We've said it would take something major for that to change.

After Detroit next week they get the Raiders, Packers, Buccaneers, 49ers, and Steelers.

Mostly teams that can score, play good defense, or both. 😬

1. Mitch Trubisky deserves lots of credit for helping the #Bears rebound over the past few weeks. They're clearly a better team with him under center.

One must stress caution though.

Context is king and the reality is a soft schedule of subpar defenses (30th, 31st, 22nd) helps.
2. The best way to describe this situation is Mitch Trubisky has returned close to his 2018 form.

He's playing efficient, confident football thanks in large part to the offense not going through him.

Back then it was Jordan Howard. This time it's David Montgomery. #Bears
3. David Montgomery has accounted for 571 total yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns in the past four games.

He's been borderline unstoppable, looking quicker and faster than ever along with his never-die-easy running style.

The #Bears have hitched their wagon to him.

1. Ryan Pace’s tenure as #Bears GM pretty much died on a Mitch Trubisky strip-sack. It doesn’t get much more poetic than that.
2. Calling back-to-back pass plays deep in your own territory with a turnover-prone QB while your RB is having a great game.

Say this for Matt Nagy. He went down staying 100% on brand. #Bears
3. Allen Robinson needs 96 yards in four games to crack 1,000 for the second-straight year. He’s the best offensive player this regime ever acquired.

It’s horribly fitting he’ll likely leave at the same time as them. #Bears
