I was just talking about how this is clearly being promulgated by the #TantonNetwork channels in order to offer the illusion of popular support. That's why that network exists, to launder disinfo and money. If you look at who is promulgating this and related narratives, it
shows an extraordinarily clear pattern. The topics change from time to time, but not very much, and the people laundering them into the mainstream remain the same. You can check this for yourself -- just check on all the electeds who regularly show up at the Rio Grande in camo
and all the moist weird media wannabe creeps who egg them on
The reason I'm calling out this network specifically and not the MAGA networks generally is because of the added "illegal immigrant" flavor the narratives have just taken

I just want to make something extremely clear. All this escalating rhetoric has been specifically to target elected officials and other public officials, giving them faces, names, and plans. It was deliberate from the get-go. It is purposeful. It is an attack.
Don't let the same people who promulgated the lies that motivated DePape and all the murderous wingnuts who came before him muddy the waters with their lies. They're invested in getting away with it so they can do it again and again. Call them out. Slap them the fuck down.
These tactics -- rhetoric, threats, violence, escalation, etc. -- comprise election interference (as part of a larger hybrid threat) and should be treated as such. That's exactly what this is, and for journalists to describe it in any other way does the public a major disservice.
"That Riverview man is literally going to try to starve us out of water... I hope every single property he owns is set on fire by someone. I hope that someone salts his ground so that nothing grows." That's the spite I live for
"I feel like nobody really cared about water before... So when the AMA got a lot of positive backing behind it, I’m thinking to myself, ‘Well, that’s crazy, because everybody that I’ve talked to beforehand didn’t give two shits about water.’"
You shouldn't. People endorsing a known conspiracy narrative are also signaling that the are on board with the rest of the weaponized bullshit. They're telling you that they are enemies of democracy.
I keep calling these narratives "weaponized" because they are WEAPONS, weapons of war. They are there specifically to attack democratic institutions, such as public schools (and school boards), libraries, the justice system, etc. And the way they attack them is by introducing
Agree completely, and I'd like to add that this is actually something we were trying to get going in 2020 in the United States -- a meme-based civilian approach to countering disinformation. It's the only thing that's going to stop this bullshit at this point
Unfortunately I am a poor organizer, and a lot of people just kinda ripped off my tips and used them for self-enrichment so I stopped. But this is exactly the approach that is needed everywhere -- irreverent, pointed, pro-democracy, and informative. It's incredibly effective.
Oh and lest it sound like I'm saying that NAFO or similar was my idea, it wasn't! I'm not saying my idea was ripped off, it's just that the only approach that seemed like it would work had those qualities as well as being a fully decentralized effort.
