There’s been a lot of discussion over the past few months about business models for NFT creators & whether creator fees (“royalties”) are viable.

Given our role in the ecosystem, we want to take a thoughtful, principled approach to this topic & to lead w/ solutions. 🧵
2/ It’s clear that many creators want the ability to enforce fees on-chain & we believe that choice should be theirs–not a marketplace’s–to make.

So we’re building tools we hope will balance the scales by putting more power in creators’ hands to control their business model.
3/ To that end today we’re launching a tool for on-chain enforcement of creator fees for *new collections* Starting 12pm ET on Tuesday Nov 8 OpenSea will enforce creator fees only for new collections that use an on-chain enforcement tool such as this one. github.com/ProjectOpenSea…

This week in Waves 🌊: @alidasun

We’re highlighting an artist who is constantly pushing the boundary of what digital art can be and how people can experience it. Although Alida is already so accomplished, she still works on her craft daily to innovate and explore generative art!
2/ Alida’s early inspiration came from the Bauhaus style of design and the underground art scene in Berlin. She’s since taught herself how to code and has now displayed her spatial projection installations in some of the most exclusive art spaces!
3/ Alida’s talents range from crafting physical materials to designing spatial projection shows with live dancers - a true combination of analogue and digital.

She hopes to instill a sense of wonder for those who see and interact with her work as that’s when her art comes alive

1/ Stolen items and scams are big issues in the NFT space. So, we’ve been hard at work on 2 new solutions to address both on OpenSea:

Introducing Malicious URL Detection and Removal 🚫 and Theft Detection and Disablement 🔐
2/ Malicious URL Detection and Removal 🚫

We just launched a new system that proactively scans URLs shared on OpenSea to identify if they may be malicious. It starts by cross checking a given URL against a blocklist of known malicious sites.
3/ But since suspicious behaviors often show up on OpenSea before they are known to be bad, the system goes a step further by analyzing interactions and transactions to identify malicious behaviors like signature farming and wallet draining 🔎

We want to share an update on OpenSea’s rarity ranking:
On Tuesday, Oct 25, we will adopt the @openrarity ranking methodology for eligible collections across all chains. This is a meaningful change and we want to share our rationale & next steps. 🧵⤵️
2/ The most consistent feedback the OpenSea team has received around OpenRarity from creators is “how do I get access?”
Many creators didn’t realize that this functionality exists and, as a result, we’ve had an inconsistent buying and selling experience across collections.
3/ To take a step back: when creators opted-in to @openrarity ranking, they tended to stay opted-in. To date, over 90% of collections remain opted-in.

With so much adoption already, it’s important now to build awareness and ensure that our community understands this methodology.

Data is a *foundational* component of buying, selling, & DYOR about NFTs. 📉🚀📈
We’ve just launched a new analytics tab on most collection pages and it is now rolled out to 100% of our users! 🙌

Below, we have some more info on why we built something new & what’s changing 🧵⤵️
2/ People have historically relied on a variety of data sources to learn more about NFTs. This process can be inefficient – especially for people who want to take action (buy /sell) quickly.

We want to make this process easier & help everyone make informed decisions on OpenSea.
3/ Most collections now include an analytics tab where you can browse trends, metrics, and collection activity. We show three core metrics (volume, sales and floor price) across time windows and different views.

We’re excited to share two methodology improvements that the @openrarity team has made to their ranking based on community feedback!
These changes have been built by the working group (of which @opensea is a member) and may change ranks for some collections. Lets dig in ⤵️ Image
2/ First, OpenRarity now includes trait count as part of the standard methodology, which was highly requested by creators and collectors 🎉
3/ Second, OpenRarity now includes a “double sort” that first sorts by items with at least one unique attribute before applying information that elevates the rankings of unique items in collections.
