How is it that the droplet transmission dogmatists aren't demanding RCTs for handwashing? For any disease. If the thesis that #COVIDisAirborne needs proving by RCT, then what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
While we are at it, can we also demand RCTs of mosquito nets/repellant, and water sanitation systems to prevent waterborne illnesses including cholera and typhoid?
Since we're being RCT purists, don't we also repeat RCTs for COVID vaccines/boosters and antivirals for each new variant that arises? We can't just rely on bench science and observational data to extrapolate safety and efficacy, can we?
Medicine can't sink to the level of physics and be reduced to mechanistic science! What has laboratory determination of mechanistics got to do with science, anyway? Only suck-it-and-see trial-and-error random empiricism can be called scientific!

2. The SoftSeal 3D N95 with the silicone seal is currently the preferred respirator used by @sri_srikrishna (you’ve hopefully seen his excellent website patientknowhow.com). It seems to have an unusually high fit test pass rate

A little reminder to always buy N95 respirators with head straps. Avoid ones with earloops (unless you've passed a fit test in it— there is an approximately 50% failure rate). There's no such thing as an N95 with earloops masksexplained.com/index.php/many…
In the EU, unfortunately, you can find FFP2 respirators with CE markings, but even these should be avoided as per the warning put out by HSE in the UK
The AU/NZ equivalent of an N95/FFP2 respirator is the “P2” respirator. You can also find earloop P2 respirators like the AMD model. I also failed almost instantly in this though not as quickly as in a KN95/KF94. There is a ~50% chance that you will too.

Easy. The libertarian no-war-against-COVID “pacifist” types are laissez-faire WRT COVID as a civilian health problem but if seen as a military assault with a bioweapon, are tempted to use it as a paranoid ruse for total war against economic rival, China. 🧵
The reason the CDC was once a well-funded whip-crack organisation was that it was on the front line of war preparedness in case of all-out biological and nuclear war against the Soviet Union
After the collapse of the Soviet block, the CDC became less of a biomilitary organisation and more of a civilian public health organisation serving the good of the populace. Hence, seen as a costly nuisance that needed to be silenced by its political masters

🧵Heraclitus thought that the universe was in flux like fire. Nothing ever “is”, for everything is always coming into being. Playing with viruses is playing with fire. It is not what a virus “is” but its potential for what can “become” that we must fear
One day, we may look back and realise that by asserting that SARS-CoV-2 “is” a fomite-born disease and not blocking the airborne transmission evolutionary pathway, we accelerated its evolution towards exploiting this loophole ever more efficiently
In future, we should pre-emptively block the ability of novel viral threats to spread efficiently via the airborne route of spread and clip the potential of the virus to evolve flight
