#AMuS The Chinese Grand Prix has been given a place on the 2023 racing calendar. But in the paddock, many doubt that Formula 1 will actually drive in Shanghai next year. The reason is the strict Corona requirements.
For three years, Formula 1 gave China a wide berth. The pandemic and the strict corona policy in the Middle Kingdom made the Asia trip impossible for a long time. But in 2023 the spook should finally be over. The premier class is planning a celebratory return to Shanghai.
As the fourth race of the year, the China Grand Prix on April 16 was added to the 2023 F1 calendar. In order to gain more time, the F1 bosses were actually happy to move the event to autumn. But in the end, the FIA pushed for a speedy release of the calendar.
There was no time for further negotiations with the local organizers. So the traditional spring date in mid-April was chosen again without further ado. This leaves less than six months to prepare for the comeback.
But currently hardly anyone in the paddock believes that the Grand Prix can actually be held. In his opening speech at the 20th Communist Party Congress, head of state and party leader Xi Jinping rejected all hopes of a relaxation of the strict corona policy.
The People's Republic will continue to adhere to the strict zero-Covid strategy in the future. For fear of the big autumn wave, citizens in Shanghai still have to regularly take part in mass tests.
Even with minor outbreaks, businesses are closed and people locked in their homes for isolation. According to the current status, all spectators who want to go to the track would have to submit a negative test.
The organizer is afraid that he will therefore not be able to fill the grandstands and will be left with the high Grand Prix fees. Strict entry requirements apply to guests from abroad. Two negative PCR tests from two different test centers are required before departure.
Of course, there will be another test on site. In addition, a ten-day quarantine in central facilities is on the program for all visitors after landing, which is of course completely unrealistic in the tight Formula 1 calendar.
There was also the problem of getting there. The number of flight connections is currently very limited. Lufthansa currently only flies from Frankfurt to Shanghai on Mondays and Tuesdays. There is also a connection from China Eastern Airlines every Wednesday.
It doesn't look any better from London either. So that the reduced offer pays off despite low occupancy, business class tickets currently cost five-digit euros. In general, the teams’ desire to return to the country of origin of the corona virus is limited.
The race is isolated two weeks after Australia and two weeks before Azerbaijan. Because you can't combine it with other Grands Prix, the logistics costs are correspondingly high.
Although on the other hand there is also high income from the F1 fees, one would like to save the strenuous journey. Incidentally, there is no substitute candidate for Shanghai. A cancellation would mean a four-week break right after the third race in Melbourne.
In the Formula 1 headquarters, however, they are said to be already discussing putting the Baku race on the China date. Then the gap would be filled and the actually planned double header Baku-Miami would be equalized.
Criticism came from the teams immediately after the calendar was published. At the beginning of the season there's a lot of leeway between the races, but at the end it's one after the other.
Toto Wolff believes that every manager or director must find their management style. The Mercedes F1 director has found his own, and thinks there are two opposing types of leaders. Very often, according to him, the most difficult thing is to have a balanced approach.

"The most important thing is to be authentic in the way you act and to be true to yourself. Because if you're not authentic, and you try to pretend to do things a certain way, people will feel it. Even if it's not a conscious reaction," Wolff said.

"Clearly, if you look at both sides of the spectrum, you have an absolute empathetic person who avoids controversy, tries to deal with love, and will, at some stage, be disappointed at how people abuse that personality type."
Mario Isola (Pirelli): Formula 1 heads to Interlagos next weekend: the shortest lap of the year after Monaco and Mexico. It’s a historic track run anti-clockwise, which alternates some quick sections as well as medium-speed sequences of corners, such as the famous ‘Senna esses’.
Isola: There aren’t any big demands on the tyres in terms of traction and braking because it’s a very flowing layout, and the lack of slow corners means that the teams are able to control the degradation on the rear tyres.
Isola: Brazil will host the "Sprint" also this year, the last of the season, and it will be particularly interesting with this car package to see what will happen on the track and, once again, the key role of the different strategies that can be used: in 2021 the grid on....

Motorsport Italy reports that Scuderia Ferrari engineers analyzed the data from the Mexican GP to identify the cause of a weekend on the high altitude in which the reds suffered problems that never occurred.
In addition to the difficulties in exploiting the turbo with thin air, the F1-75 also suffered from overheating in the 6-cylinder combustion chamber which forced the adoption of poorly performing mappings to safeguard reliability.

Enrico Gualtieri's engineers were aware that they would have paid for something with a turbo-compressor limited to an engine speed of 103,000 rpm against the 125,000 allowed by the FIA regulations.
Motorsport-Total.com - Leclerc: Believed in World Championship chance until after the summer break.
After the Hungarian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc went into the summer break 80 points behind Max Verstappen.
In an interview with our Italian colleagues from 'Motorsport.com' he revealed that at that point he still believed in his chances of winning the World Championship.
"A lot of people think that moment was the French Grand Prix," he replies when asked when he realized that 2022 would not be enough for the title. "But it was fun for me," emphasizes Leclerc, who still had hope during the summer break.
How do you think the team has fared at Sprint weekends this year and are there any changes that could be made to improve the format for teams and fans?
KMAG: I think we’ve done well, we’ve scored points at every Sprint so far and I actually quite like those weekends where you...
Magnussen: get into serious business, quickly. Three practice sessions are actually a lot, and these weekends show that you can get ready for qualifying with one practice. It’s the same for everyone, you deal with it, and it becomes normal.
Magnussen: I think six next year is good but of course the workload for the team in the garage during these weekends is very high. From a driving perspective, it’s very cool.
