if they're going to be doing suicide missions in 1944, they might as well print the big red meatball and have them scream TENNOUHEKAI BANZAI #艦これ
OOOOOOOOOOH FUCK, it's 23rd October 1944???
Uh, this battle historically... these bitches are going to die #艦これ
So the Battle of Surigao Strait was the final battleship-on-battleship action in naval history. The previous battleship-on-battleship battle, was during 2nd Guadalcanal wherein US Navy Vice Admiral "Ching" Lee singlehandedly humiliated a superior Japanese fleet and sunk Kirishima
As the show depicts accurately, Nishimura's Southern Force is on a suicide mission to distract the Americans, and consists of 2 old battleships, Yamashiro and Fusou, the heavy cruiser Mogami, and 4 destroyers, Shigure, Michishio, Asagumo and Yamagumo
Only Shigure will survive
Facing the Southern Force will be 6 modern US battleships, 5 of whom were sunk at Pearl Harbor, refloated, repaired and are raring for revenge
Along with 8 cruisers, 28 destroyers, and 39 torpedo boats, that will give accurate warning for the 7th Fleet who set a deadly trap
Nishimura manages to sail through the hail of torpedoes from the US torpedo boats but during this time, the 28 US destroyers have made a "U" shaped formation, turn, and fire all their torpedoes into the Southern Force
At around 0300, both Japanese battleships are hit, and Fuso falls out of formation burning vigorously. 2 of the 4 destroyers are sunk instantly, a 3rd limps away but will sink
Fuso is targeted by accurate American radar-lain gunfire and blows in half, the 2 halves float apart
As Nishimura's force limps towards the American fleet, they are picked up on radar in the night, the US battleships have had time to sail into position for a full broadside, and open up, this will be the last full salvo in naval history and it cripples Yamashiro and Mogami.
With the flagship Yamashiro burning, the Japanese Southern Force loses cohesion, and begins firing ineffectively in all directions. Yamashiro is hit at 0405 by a torpedo from destroyer Bennion and sinks with Nishimura minutes later, causing Mogami and Shigure to retreat
In the chaos, the 2nd Japanese Southern Force led by Shima accidentally rams the wounded Mogami, crippling her steering. Unable to keep up and easy prey for American aircraft, she is scuttled. Shima cancels the mission and retreats, leaving destroyer Shigure the only survivor

a summary of how the American system works in terms of the American Indian genocide
In the 1830s, the US Government spent 40% of its annual budget on Indian "Removal" alone; forcing the 100,000 remaining East of the Mississippi, on land they legally owned, out on behalf of the Southern states who threatened secession if they were not ethnically cleansed
I should note, they took their case to the Supreme Court in Worcester v. Georgia which ruled the Cherokee Nation, having a written constitution, drawn borders, an elected parliament, towns, houses, etc, were not part of Georgia. The President famously refused to enforce it
youtube is closer to trying to figure out what i want to see in videos from China, which is a northern dude who does donkey hoof care with a planer and regular farrier knives
the way the planer fucking kicks makes me fucking terrified
also it's comforting to hear the northern Chinese version of boomhauer babble about his donkey and how much they can pull
like the Kurds and others have learned, you cannot trust us Americans and you especially cannot trust our corporations and shit. Take what you will but build a backup
i wouldn't be surprised if he orders Twitter's few mods left to just delete any Ukraine accounts that complain
rumors are he switched them off because Ukraine was asking Microsoft and other tech companies for alternatives. I know Google and FB investigated balloon and solar drone based systems, but i think only Musk's DoD subsidized Starlink has a working product cnbc.com/2022/11/03/ukr…
17 Dec 1944, the Battle of the Bulge, Waffen-SS, enraged that 22 GIs had stalled them earlier, capture an American convoy near Malmedy, Belgium. 84 POWs are massacred, but instead of intimidating them, news of this steels their resolve and the Americans fight more ferociously.
Those POWs who managed to escape to friendly lines, tell the grim news of Germans executing surrendering Americans and Belgian civilians, and thanks to radio, many American soldiers hear about this within hours. With no choice to surrender, those few GIs trapped fight harder.
In 1949, the Senate estimates ~500-750 American POWs were executed along with over 100 Belgian civilians who tried to warn the Americans. The 1946 Malmedy massacre trial sentences 43 Nazi officers to death by hanging but it's later commuted to life in prison, then to 35 years
If you don't know, Accenture was the consulting wing of the former "Big Five" consulting firm Arthur Andersen, that's right, the same Andersen that said Worldcom and Enron were real companies with real money before both exploded in 2002. Accenture split off 2 years prior, lucky
Accenture provides "professional services" and "consulting". These services are all IT which it does most of it via its Microsoft-cloud using subsidiary Avanade. A lot of these IT services are for governments and Accenture has been sued lots for failing to actually make software
It is 26 January 1972, and Yugoslavian flight steward Vesna Vulović is excited for today’s flight aboard a DC-9 operated as JAT Airways Flight 367 leaving Stockholm, Sweden for Zagreb, Yugoslavia. The crew has a long layover in Copenhagen, Denmark and Vesna has never been.
Vesna was not supposed to be on this flight and she was not supposed to be a flight steward either. She has low blood pressure but during medical testing she drank a shitload of coffee to pass. Additionally one steward is missing, she is confused for her, and volunteers to board.
They arrive late to Copenhagen and Vesna recalls a “terribly annoyed man” who gets off but doesn’t reboard. Volunteering to continue on, she boards for Zagreb and Flight 367 departs at 3pm uneventfully.
