A week ago, the Amsterdamse #Bokkentocht happened, and for the fun of it, it was tracked on @Strava
Out of curiosity, the whole trek was tracked in one go, using only the phone's internal sensors, to grant Auto Pause a field test
support.strava.com/hc/en-us/artic…
Therein'the start of the exercise wasn't yet too promising. The measurements were started on the platform, in between track 1 and 2 of @NS_online station #Lelylaan, and followed by an immediate right turn. The reading, however, looks as if a drunkard stumbled all over the place
The stroll between station #Lelylaan and the #Rembrandpark was tracked meticulously well. Even the part under the #A10 #viaduct where they were busy filming a cyclist for some upcoming movie production.
Maybe except for the staircase of Brug 386.

Holding pace to snap a quick picture of a cute display at the #Surinameplein, though, looked like a detour was made, straight through someone's living room.
Walking the #Overtoom, @Strava encountered a lot of GPS bounce. Interesting enough, @googlemaps, relying on the exact same data, managed to filter or smoothen this out.
First actual stop, at @MorebeerNL's Craft & Draft, looks a bit nervous, and my gut feeling tells me that @strava's #AutoPause didn't really pick this up as a break.
Same goes for the quick visit to the @AlbertHeijn supermarket across the street. Albeit indoors, the GPS did pick up my route through the store decently well. Consider this part of the walk🙂
The following stop, at @CafeGollem's #Proeflokaal, though, looks rather eventful on @strava & @googlemaps for someone simply having some soup and a beer on the patio.
The exact same can be said about the carrot cake at Café de Spuyt.
...and the cream filled date at @CafeGollem #Raamsteeg
Followed by more drifting and bouncing GPS on @strava, which does look a lot smoother and straighter on @googlemaps
The rum infused raisins at @cafearendsnest appear even more remarkable. Where @strava makes it appear Casper the friendly ghost roams and wanders all over the place, straight trough walls and canals, @googlemaps prefers straight lines.
While there's a discrepancy where it comes to the smoked mussels at @indewildeman - though neither draws wild scribbles, @strava's route doesn't even come near said pub, while @googlemaps entheusiastically plots the walking route straight through buildings
The wild scribbles on @strava return for the deep fried #croquetes and #bitterballen at @deprael - while @googlemaps decides to discreetly stop logging things...
...entirely skipping the next leg of the journey, towards the location marked with an arrow...
...where Café Zilt served a delicious stew, simmered in Hertog Jan Grand Prestige 2019.
Last leg of the walk - the @NS_online train station #AmsterdamCentraal
@NS_online All in all, it appears wise to manually pause @strava when taking a rest during an activity. Even if one barely moves and remains in the same location, GPS drift will be recorded as part of the activity.
To my surprise - it appears doable to combine gyroscope and satellite data in such a way that a break (whether out- or indoors) gets cancelled out automatically from a @strava activity, or gives the end user the opportunity to correct it manually.
@Strava All in all, the Amsterdamse Bokkentocht, strava.app.link/cHOsrAAIKub, does appear to have had a beneficial effect, as the @fitbit stats (from 11:00 to 15:00) underscore :)
To an extent, it makes sense @GoogleMaps geofenced the area where Café Zilt is located
Luckily, though, it's possible to correct the @googlemaps #locationhistory - the completed segment does look better, this way.
Hoping for @strava to allow manual corrections, eventually, too. As impressive as it may look, it would be beneficial if wild scratchy scribbles like these can be cropped out of an exercise.
