All I know is John was/is in love with Murph & he thinks Carlos is hot. Saying either of those things at all—let alone with definitive certainty—would have sounded like I needed to be institutionalized 2 weeks ago. & yet here we are! & it’s only episode 4!

I agree that Robbie & co are likely aware of optics of putting John in a (new) m/m relationship & having that TAKEN later. Are there ways to do it well & have the loss be organic? Certainly. Could they hook up & be messy & not date? I mean, yeah. LEGIT who knows.

I’M not expecting anything more at all. But I do think on some level if they were overtly worried about pissing off fandom… then this show wouldn’t exist lol. I also doubt they’d see John being bi as a potential “problem”—because by & large it shouldn’t be.

Taking fandom blinders off… on some level IF they go more explicit with m/m for John, it’s—in an industry sense—MAYBE a “safe” realm to play in. John’s endgame is with a woman; because biphobia is a hell of a drug any overseeing powers could be thinking of that.

John having loved men & then getting with Mary is not automatically a bad bi narrative no matter what anyone says. But I could see biphobia meaning it’s the kind of thing it COULD be “easier” to “get away with” (🙄) & thus make room for a nuanced queer story.

But it’s early days & this is all hypothetical as fuck. & ultimately… this is a STORY Dean is telling. John is bi because Dean is. I do think part of the point is they want people to pay attention & clock that (& dare to hope it could bode well for the future).

We also know very little of big picture or if this is AU. We’re taking it as fact this ends in full tragedy, John/Mary, etc. but… We’ve been promised surprises. Who knows what’ll happen along the way, let along (hopefully) someday in the “end” of the beginning?

Bottom line is I don’t think anything is off the table—which I find exciting! All I want is a good story, & this is already bolder than I expected. Anything else in the way of bi John specifically is a bonus as far as I’m concerned, so I’m having a GREAT time 😌
