Some big, under-covered news coming out of the election may be—if it comes to pass—that all 6 insurrectionists running for Secretary of State in major 2024 battleground states lost. We’re on our way to that eventuality. And it’d mean that voters had *made safe* the 2024 election!
It can’t be overstated that Trump isn’t merely going to announce a third presidential run in 6 days to avoid indictment, but also because he believed he’d positioned election deniers in key states to help him steal the 2024 election. That option may now be off the board for him.
When you consider that Democrats are in a good position to hold the Senate, and that the only real purpose for Republicans in taking over the House was to try to ensure Trump won in 2024—they have no actual governing agenda—the collapse of Trump’s 2024 chances is a very big deal.
At this point, it looks like Trump will be aiming to win the presidency having never won the national popular vote, having no mechanism to steal the election, having possibly multiple indictments against him, having cost his party a “red wave,” and having little popularity left.
Meanwhile, his chief rival for the GOP nomination for president (DeSantis) has been dramatically emboldened by yesterday’s events. So I will say again what I said yesterday: if the GOP doesn’t bow to Trump, he’ll bolt the party.

Things are looking disastrous for the Republicans.
I think the story in U.S. politics in the next year will be the “Red Catch-22”—Trump has a gun to the head of the GOP that requires them to ensure he wins the 2024 nom (because he’ll splinter the party if he doesn't get it) but they have to aid him even as they know he can’t win.
And of course this scenario (the “Red Catch-22”) remains even if Democrats hold the House. Meaning that if the Democrats hold the House, the Republicans face an absolute disaster for the next two years that has *no upside* and that they *cannot avoid*. A pretty stunning reversal.
And we haven’t even gotten into the congressional civil war the GOP is now facing. The MAGA cultists are already blaming GOP leadership in Congress for yesterday, because (of course) cultists *can’t* blame their Dear Leader. So the power struggle within the GOP will be *intense*.

BREAKING NEWS: Trump Appointee Takes $10,000 From Tens of Millions of Americans in GOP-Orchestrated Tax Hike; Marjorie Taylor Greene Can Get Her Business Loans Wholly Forgiven But You Can’t Get Any Student Debt Relief Whatsoever, Decree Wealthy Republicans reuters.com/legal/us-judge…
People needed this help. There was no legal justification for blocking it. But wealthy, powerful Republicans—men of means—across the country banded together out of their sheer contempt for middle-class and poor Americans who needed to take out crippling loans to get an education.
This is the *least populist maneuver* I have seen from a political party in my lifetime and the MAGA cult—which claims to be populist—will universally celebrate the theft of $10,000 from 40 million Americans because it makes their Dear Leader and his fellow rich friends happy. 🤬

(1 of 3) Back during the Trump-Russia scandal, there was a popular pro-Russia troll account that used the image of a young brunette to pretend to be a real person. I watched “her” feed sow havoc and disinformation for *months* back in 2017-18. This same account just came at me...
(2 of 3) ...with disinformation on Musk’s plans for Twitter—contradicting widely reported news to make his plans sound benign, then trying to start a war between legacy-blue and new-blue checkmark feeds.

This pro-Russia troll now has a verified badge. Not sure how long I am...
(3 of 3) ...going to stay here, folks. I remember this feed from the Trump-Russia days, and it creeped me out back then—obviously seeking to sow cultural chaos in the US. And now they’re *verified* and trying to hasten Twitter’s demise.

This all feels... really, *really* not OK.

(📢) A MESSAGE TO FOLLOWERS OF THIS FEED: Hi, everyone! I want to say that now would be a good time to sign up as a *free* subscriber to PROOF, where I expect I’ll be more regularly going forward. (You can decide later if you want to be a paid subscriber.) Sethabramson.substack.com
(Obviously you can sign up now to be a paid PROOF subscriber with full access to the site, I just figured that with Twitter collapsing and everyone asking where I’ll be going forward it makes sense to underscore that one can also get less but still some access to PROOF for free.)
(Substack recently rolled out a chat function that I’ll try to start using as soon as it drops on Android. That’ll give us an even better ability to form a community at PROOF than already occurs in the fairly active comment fields. I believe the Android rollout will arrive soon.)

BREAKING: Elon to Kill All Identity-Verified, Public-Figure Badges, Leaving Twitter With Only Non-Identity-Verified, $8/Month Anonymous Users Impersonating Celebrities; It Turns Out a Billionaire Alt-Rightist Really Did Buy Twitter for $44 Billion Just to Own the Libs and Kill It Image
(PS) Well, I was wrong. I admit it. I believed Elon Musk would be a rational actor, as I figured no one could amass that much wealth being a puerile, corrupt, addled-brained turdstick without half a lick of common sense.

But Musk is just an alt-right troll with cash. That’s all.
(PS2) I’m deciding what to do. It’s possible all my content—even daily content—will end up at PROOF. I’m not going to stick around here having my face spit in by a site I helped raise untold ad revenue for that I never saw a cent of. Substack is my likely long-term landing-place.

This is what I see when I click on my “verified” badge. If you click the badge of someone who purchased verification without confirming identity or being selected for verification, a different message appears. Twitter could use this to distinguish official/public-figure accounts. Image
Alternately, Twitter could use a different color badge for verification that was purchased without selection or identity confirmation. Unless the sole purpose of all these changes is to denigrate the work—which raised enormous revenue for Twitter—of currently verified accounts.
It seems to me that Elon has a strong desire to punish people he dislikes by taking away their verification, but because he doesn’t think he can get away with doing this—personally deciding something like this as a tyrant—he’s decided to destroy the entire system of verification.

These people either don’t understand Donald Trump or don’t want to accept what they understand.

Trump is an abuser, a criminal, and a con man. In his view, *he* decides when he’s done with you, you don’t decide when you’re done with *him*.

Abandon him and he will get dangerous.
The GOP had *one opportunity* to stop Trump—and it was at the RNC in Cleveland in 2016. I wrote about this at the time, and foolishly believed the GOP would take the chance to save itself. It didn’t.

Now it’s stuck with a parasite who will implode the party if it displeases him.
The second Donald Trump threatens to start his own political party if he’s not the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, he in effect becomes the 2024 Republican presidential nominee. He has a gun to the head of the party and it is pathetic that the party even pretends otherwise.
