On Saturday night I was forced to leave the @premierinn Enfield, in the middle of the night. staff didn’t believe my dog was a guide dog. Despite being given proof (my ADUK, harness and lead!). Legally I do not have to provide proof. This is a thread. Get comfy.
I stayed at a premier inn Enfield Saturday 5th Nov. I checked in Tudor with me in full guiding gear. No issues. I get to the room, and took my medicine which can make me tired. About 9:30pm my partner took Tudor-with his guide dog lead on so he could still be seen as a guide dog
He was stopped on his way back saying no dogs. He was asked for proof. He explained he’s a guide dog, showed the lead, said (me) would give proof in the morning if you needed it but it’s late she’s asleep. and come back.
ey then knock the door, waking me. They didn’t identify themselves to me. (I was in a state of undress using the door for modesty). They demanded ‘documents’ for the dog. I asked for a manger because of the time of night and not having an idea of who they were. (I can’t see).
I then closed the door.
They used the master key to barge in which scared me. Demanded I leave the hotel. My ID I did show wasn’t enough evidence and accused me of slamming the door (you can’t slam a fire door). Which they claimed was aggressive.
Then someone claiming to be security come and we were thrown out of the hotel. They then claimed I didn’t look blind and it was obviously fake bought online.
Not once did they tell me they were staff. I only ever asked them for a manger.
ADUK is the only “document” we carry.
This one really shook me up. I feel so fragile and it made me aware of just how vulnerable I am. It’s made me feel ashamed of my disability for the first time. Like I don’t matter. I’m scared of hotel stays now. And I travel a lot.
I was discriminated against, bullied and had my privacy stripped from me.
I will be taking legal action
Let me please make you aware of their own policy they claim I broke by bringing my guide dog
And those in my DMs saying it was a “mistake”. A mistake is spelling someone’s name wrong. This was illegal. Not a mistake
Fireworks night is a night of metal anguish for myself, any other disabled people and dogs! It’s one of the most horrific things I’ve ever had to go through
