🧵 The election results in Texas are a story of HOPE for the South and the country. Here's why 👇🏽
1/ @BetoORourke had the best governor's race performance in 20+ years. Thank you, Beto, for inspiring millions of us.
@BetoORourke 2/ Texas Latinos rejected right-wing extremism, and overwhelmingly voted for Democratic & progressive candidates.
Our Congressional seats that voted for Biden in 2020 STAYED BLUE. Now, it's time to deliver for working class Latinos.
@BetoORourke 3/ We passed a huge affordable housing election in Austin, TX that will keep thousands of working class people from being pushed out of the city. 🏘️ #ATX
@BetoORourke 4/ San Marcos, TX officially voted to decriminalize marijuana with 81% of the vote! 🌿
I authored the first marijuana decriminalization policy to pass in Texas, and I am proud to see it spreading across the state. #SMTX
@BetoORourke 5/ We flipped several Hays County offices from Republican ➡️ Democratic.
The Republican District Attorney will be replaced by progressive @KellyHiggins4DA, who's committed to criminal justice reform & not prosecuting abortion cases. #HaysCo
9/ And these are just a few of the races that give me HOPE for our future. Texans are organizing and laying the groundwork for future progressive wins.
The lesson is this: you can win or lose an election — but you can’t stop a movement. We are here to stay.

I am considering running to represent our community in the United States Congress.
We can make the world a better place if we fight for it – organize for it. I hope you'll consider joining me in this exploratory phase: rungregrun.org#TX35
If top Republicans won’t fix the Texas power grid and fight climate change, then we need someone in Congress who will— so our families don’t freeze in the next storm.
If the Texas Legislature continues to ban raising the minimum wage, then we need Congress to require living wages for all, with good healthcare, and the freedom to organize a union.
✊🏿 Formally recognizing & apologizing for the City’s participation in enslavement, Jim Crow, & discrimination, and affirming a commitment to reconciliation, restitution, & investment in Black Austin. #ATX kut.org/austin/2021-03…
⚡️💧Austin Energy & Water will *not* charge ridiculous utility rates from this disaster. In fact, tomorrow we're giving $10M in utility earnings back to struggling customers.
That's because our utilities are publicly owned. They serve the people rather than profit. Details 👇
In 1890, Austinites were fed up with high prices from private electric/water companies, so they voted to create public utilities.
Now, utility rates are set by City Council, & all earnings benefit our residents, not shareholders.
THREAD: 💧 Last week, I asked our City for four items to help us guarantee water for all Austinites. Here are a few updates on our efforts ⬇️
1. 📍 Establish a central list of rental properties without water in Austin.
The City now has a map of where water is still out or where the plumbing has been fixed: bit.ly/austinwaterout…. If you’re a homeowner who needs help, go to austintexas.gov/atxrepairs
2. 🚨 Targeted emergency water delivery.
The City is now ensuring, by staff or volunteers, that there will be water at every apartment complex that has confirmed plumbing issues. That means nearby fire hydrants have been activated for water or water is being delivered.
