Twitter is completely invaluable and cannot be easily replaced. Forget the funny tweets, it's home to thousands of communities around the world. Journalists from every country use Twitter, there is nowhere else you can go for instant coverage, analysis + discussion of everywhere
Twitter clones could take years to develop the breadth of this global userbase. If the website ends up dying, there is a lot that will be lost. Maybe there are other "analysis/discussion" alternatives - Facebook, Reddit I guess - but nothing performs quite as well
I don't think this website will/can actually die unless drastic changes- like cloistering off or paywalling the website as described here- actually go through. Personally I'll probably stick around until the bitter end here and work up contingency plans
