This does make sense, though SBF vision of EA appears to have been decidedly normie/bugman, involving large donations to Democrats, not esoteric stuff like the AI risks or qualia research etc. Given this ideological tilt perhaps wrecking crypto was actually more feature than bug?

A friend writes to me with theory: SBF's mom founded a SuperPAC for raising money for Dems. SBF himself on record being in crypto for utilitarian reasons, mainly involving giving tons of money to Dems (2nd biggest donor after Soros). Also infamously pushed for #DeFi regulations.
That was background. The theory: SBF has "heads I win, tails you lose" attitude. Former, he/Alameda becomes king of crypto, create huge money funnel for Dems. Latter, crypto is wrecked, resulting in no competition vs. CBDCs & removing a strong dissident-leaning center of wealth.
Did SBF Saint Petersburg paradox himself and thousands of others into destitution in this Timeline?
