I've started a #DragonAge community on Dreamwidth. I created it earlier this year, and debated about sharing, but I'm going with it. Keep reading to find out why and to answer WTF is DW?

DREAMWIDTH is a Livejournal clone (please Gen Z, don't say what's LJ? I'm gonna cry).

These platforms were part of the early web, focused on long-form blogging. They do not have a feed, reblogs, or likes. (Well LJ does now, but they've become evil.)

You have control over every post to make it private (just you), friends only, or public. People can friend you, but you don't have to friend them... and if you don't, then they CAN'T see your friends only posts.

There are communities (like the one linked above) to join and post in. It allows you to keep your 2000 obsessions separate. No need to apologize to your DA friends who are stuck seeing you salivate over OFMD. You all joined the DA community, and see only DA posts there.

IF they friended you, they knew they would be exposed to other things. And they're okay with it. Otherwise, they wouldn't have friended you!

DW specifically was born out of the same purges, strikethroughs, and corporate shenanigans that gave birth to AO3.

They are a stable platform that has existed since 2009, are ad-free, and are committed to privacy.

They specifically work to make sure their payment processor won't cancel them over adult content, and recently changed their host, when cloudfare wouldn't get rid of KF. A founder ENCOURAGED people who had a problem with this to leave the platform.

Downsides: Their design is outdated, because like AO3 their devs are volunteers, but they are constantly working on improvements. They don't have an app. If you are an artist, you'll need an image host (images.squidge.org is free image hosting for fandom, NSFW friendly!).

Upsides: Again, no ads. RSS feed support (you can follow people on other platforms). privacy controls. stability. Age-mark your whole journal or individual posts as gen, potentially NSFW, or definitely 18+. Free!

The Hanged Man DW community shouldn't be confused with the Discord server I run by the same name, btw. The Discord server focuses on fanfic, but the DW comm is a general #DragonAge fandom gathering place.

Membership will remain open without screening for a while as people try to figure out where they're going.

Any DA fan 18+ who's interested is welcome to join.
