Diabetes and Thrush

1.Thrush is a yeast infection (candida albicans) which tends to affect warm, moist areas of the body such as the vagina, penis, mouth and certain areas of skin.
2.Thrush is more common in people with diabetes as high sugar levels lead to better conditions for the yeast to grow.

A dry mouth coupled with a higher amount of glucose in the saliva can also make for favourable conditions for thrush.
3.High blood sugar levels is one of the main causes of thrush and so is an weakened immune system, which is also common in people with diabetes.

Damaged or irritated skin also promotes the growth of thrush.
4.Smoking increases the chance of oral thrush and certain oral contraceptives may cause vaginal thrush too.
5.Vaginal thrush (vulvovaginal candidiasis) symptoms include:

Soreness and irritation
White curd appearance on the skin
Pain during sexual intercourse
White vaginal discharge
Reddening of the vulva (the outer parts of the vagina)
Itching around the vagina (infectious vaginitis
6.Oral thrush (oral candidiasis) symptoms include:

A nasty or bitter taste
Redness or bleeding inside the mouth
Creamy white coloured patches (lesions) in the mouth (cheeks, lips, tongue or the back of the mouth)
Painful and sore mouth (can include the throat)
7.Thrush in men (candida balanitis)
Symptoms of thrush in men include:

Reddening or swelling or soreness of the glans (head) of the penis
Itching around the tip of the penis
Discharge beneath the foreskin
Nasty odour
Pain during urination
White curd-like appearance on the skin.
8.Candidal skin infections can also occur around folds of skin such as armpits and the groin.

Is thrush a common problem?
Thrush is a common problem and particularly for people with diabetes. Higher levels of glucose in the blood make candida all the more likely.......
9... so diabetics who have difficulty controlling their blood sugar may find themselves particularly prone to yeast infections.
10.Occasional periods of thrush may not be a cause to worry.

However, regular episodes which go untreated can lead to more serious infections. Thrush is an uncomfortable problem and it is possible to pass on to a partner.
11.Thrush may be treated by anti-fungal creams or by orally taken thrush treatments.

Typically used thrush treatments include:

Topical imidazole
Fluconazole
Itraconazole
Clotrimazole
Ketoconazole
12.For people with diabetes, keeping blood sugar levels under control will certainly help to reduce the frequency and severity of outbreaks of yeast infections.

Genital infections can be reduced by wearing looser fitting clothing (particularly underwear)......
13.......washing your genitals regularly but avoiding the use of scented soaps and shampoos.
14.Oral candidiasis can be prevented by:

Maintaining good dental hygiene
Brushing twice a day
Rinsing your mouth after eating
Flossing regularly
Using mouthwash
Maintaining clean dentures
Regularly visiting a dentist

DIABETES & FASTING

1.While fasting is an important spiritual aspect of many religions it can lead to health problems for people with diabetes. One of the longest periods of fasting is the Islamic month of Ramadan during which guidance for people with Diabetes is key.
2. If you treat your diabetes with certain medications such as insulin, there is danger of the blood sugar levels after fasting becoming too low. This can lead to a hypoglycaemia, or having your blood sugar levels too high which can lead to Diabetic Ketoacidosis.....
3... (DKA), which would require hospital treatment. The symptoms of DKA include feeling very thirsty and passing a lot of urine.
If one is fasting & doesn't take in fluids to reduce their thirst, this will accelerate dehydration and they will require urgent admission to hospital.

1.Diabetes and Cholesterol

Cholesterol is fat that is found in our blood. Sometimes it’s called lipids. When we hear this word, we think of it building up in our arteries and contributing to long-term health problems, but cholesterol isn’t just a bad guy.
2.Healthy levels of cholesterol are vital for our cells to function and to make vitamin D and some hormones.

There are two main types – HDL or high-density lipoprotein (good cholesterol) and LDL or low-density lipoprotein (bad cholesterol).
3.If the levels of your bad cholesterol become too high and the good cholesterol too low, you are at increased risk of developing cardiovascular complications (also known as CVD or heart disease).

1.DIABETES AND WAIST SIZE

Carrying extra weight around your WAIST means fat can build up around organs, like your liver and pancreas. This can cause something called insulin resistance as the insulin can’t get through the fat.
2. This means the insulin your body produces doesn’t work properly, and that increases your chance of having high blood glucose (sugar).

You should make sure your overall weight and body mass index (BMI) are healthy, but even if they are,....
3...you may still be at risk of type 2 Diabetes if you have a large waist measurement.
Measuring your waist takes less than a minute and all you need is a tape measure. You can always ask a friend or family member to help you as well if you can’t do it on your own.....

I am writing to you to lay bare my personal expectations of a Presidential candidate pre and post elections,l write as a concerned citizen based on observations l have made.
2.Prior to the 2023 elections how any of your supporters behave is up to you and them, there has been a notable trend of violence in our politics, the violence has been physical, tweeted and posted on various social media platforms and you all need to speak against that conduct.
3.To achieve a free and fair election it has to be peaceful, transparent and guided by the laws of Zimbabwe some of which require all political players to come together and ensure that the rule of law is respected, all opposition players come together and demand

1.Many inbox and calls over my involvement in the @mutami_susan and @TembaMliswa issue and because l do not want anyone calling me about it l will set the record straight here for all to see.
First it should be understood that Temba did no assign me to deal with the issue here...
2...l felt compelled to intervene when l thought the issue between @mutami_susan and @TembaMliswa was not for public consumption and had negative implications on all involved parties, being close to Temba it was the best thing l could do for him.
3..@mutami_susan was angry when l started talking to her because she indicated how disappointed she had been by @TembaMliswa l assured her l could talk to Temba and l did that,l told Temba l was talking to Susan with the hope that they could at least have a talking relationship.
