NEW: With some votes still being counted, the tally of @MomsDemand volunteers who won election for office up and down the ballot across the US this week stands at 125, highlighting the political power of our volunteers as candidates for office: demandaseat.org 🧵
In Minnesota, six @MomsDemand volunteers – all women – won their elections, flipping the state Senate and delivering a gun sense trifecta, including people like @ErinMayeQuade, one of the first Black women and one of the first LGBTQ+ women elected as a state senator there.
In Rhode Island, seven of eight @MomsDemand volunteers who ran for office won, including Jennifer Boylan, who served as a volunteer leader for a decade, helping to pass strong gun laws in her state. Now, she’ll lead on this issue as the State Representative for District 66.
In Illinois, SIXTEEN @MomsDemand volunteers who ran for office have won, including @NabeelaforIL, a Muslim, Indian American woman flipped a GOP-held district to become the youngest member of the Illinois General Assembly.
In Michigan, nine @MomsDemand volunteers won their elections, giving the statehouse a gun sense majority and delivering the first gun sense trifecta in 40 years. They were also elected to judicial and school board seats, making gun safety a priority at all levels of government.
In Indiana, @MomsDemand volunteer @AndreaHunley_IN was elected to District 46 in the State Senate, becoming the only Democrat freshman senator in the statehouse, and the first Black person to ever represent her district.
In Missouri, @MomsDemand volunteer @JamieforMO won her race to represent District 12 in the Missouri House of Representatives, flipping the seat and becoming the first Black woman to ever be elected to the state legislature from Platte County.
In Iowa, redistricting pitted State Senator and former @MomsDemand volunteer @SarahforIowa against the state’s NRA-backed Republican Senate President ... and she won.
In Colorado, @Sully_720 - a gun violence survivor and @MomsDemand volunteer who served as a State Representative in the Colorado House - won his bid for State Senate and will represent District 27.
Hundreds of @MomsDemand volunteer leaders have run for elected office and dozens have won seats – from city council to school board to Congress. Last year we launched #DemandASeat to train volunteers and survivors to run for office and to run campaigns for gun sense candidates.
We invested $3 million in Demand A Seat for educational training and mentorship opportunities for grassroots volunteers considering campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels. And that investment is paying off... news9.com/story/636163cd…

As the dust settles and races are called on an election that was fought and won on many fronts, one thing is clear: gun safety is a winning issue - from the US Senate to Governors races to state legislatures - bringing out voters in droves this cycle to elect gun sense champions.
And exit polls confirm what we saw in these races: the fundamental politics on guns has changed. 56% of 2022 voters supported stricter gun safety measures and gun safety consistently ranked among the top concerns for voters. nbcnews.com/politics/2022-…
We charted the course for gun sense candidates to use gun safety to go on offense and make the case that gun lobby candidates are a risk to health and public safety by supporting abortion bans and opposing gun safety laws, endangering families and police. coloradopolitics.com/elections/watc…
Last night’s election results prove what @momsdemand volunteers already knew: Gun safety is a priority issue among a majority of American voters - especially women - and it persuades, mobilizes, and serves as a litmus test. 🧵
That didn't happen in a vacuum - during this election cycle, our volunteers reached out to over 6M and campaigned for a record-breaking 5,000 Gun Sense Candidates in all 50 states and Washington, DC, including over 270 of our own volunteers. news9.com/story/636163cd…
We helped flip the Michigan and Minnesota legislatures and the Pennsylvania House to gun sense majorities, and we took two governorships to usher in the first woman and openly LGBTQ+ governor of Massachusetts, Maura Healey, and the first Black governor of Maryland, Wes Moore.
Easy access to guns is deadly for women & families. While you hear most about mass shootings in public places like schools, churches or grocery stores, the fact is over half are domestic violence-related. Horrifically this weekend alone, two men shot and killed entire families 🧵
In Maryland, Sara Mann, her mother Sommaly, brother Kai, and acquaintance Javon Watson were shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend before he shot and killed himself. cnn.com/2022/11/05/us/…
In Florida, a man shot and killed his girlfriend, her sister, her 49-year-old mother, and a 4-year-old girl while two other small children hid for safety. wesh.com/article/orland…
That’s a wrap! Eight weeks, 14 states (Oregon twice), over 20 cities, and so many gun sense candidates supported. @MomsDemand and I are leaving it all on the field this election. You should, too!
WTAF: Photos reveal that the NRA recently rallied with their candidates and THE PROUD BOYS in opposition to a commonsense gun safety ballot measure in Oregon. 🧵 #Measure114#orpol
Measure 114 is a commonsense measure that would require background checks on all gun sales and prohibit the sale of high capacity magazines that make mass shootings even deadlier. It will appear on Oregon voters’ ballots next week. voteyeson114.org
Unsurprisingly, while the majority of Oregonians and Americans support background checks, the gun lobby has come out against this measure, and has leaned into tired rhetoric – from fear mongering to pretending gun safety laws are unconstitutional – to try and dissuade voters.
