In 2015, as an undergrad at the University of Benin.
As an exco in my school fellowship, I learnt a life lesson. Exam periods are the ghetto, if you schooled in Nigerian Universities, you're familiar with the 'sapanization' exercise that happens around these times. I moved diff.
I called my people, and said to them, hunger is blinding 'men' and we need to look for bread and fish to share. I was in the choir then and it'll be unfair to expect people to lift up holy hands on empty bellies.
So, I asked for freewill donations and we raised about N24k then.
We bought a bag of rice, some measure of beans, tomato pastes, spices and seasoning, oils and onions and we shared them into little packs of about 20-30. We announced quietly to group leaders to send those with difficulty feeding our way, it was such a low-key project for a...
For a few reasons; we didn't have enough to feed everyone who might need it in fellowship, we wanted those who their activity group leaders could vouch for as a result of relationship, thirdly, I rarely like loud, I mean, I'll happily trade fame for silent riches. So we shared...
The bread and fish project was successful in the first semester and people were happy, especially because of the low-key nature of the distribution, no ego was bruised and there was no room for sapa-shaming anyone, the room didn't exist. Fast-forward again to second semester...
At this time, I was choked, barely slept well, due to project deadline, degree exams, one entanglement with a fine black girl, etc. My body, money and soul was obviously depleted.

I still managed to put my team together for the bread and fish project, I think all I gave was...
All I had to spare, around N2k or so, the final Sat to the distribution Sun, we barely had 6k in total, I had pulled an all-nighter and the Ctte meeting time was always by 7am on Saturdays, so at the meeting I was half-awake and when it go to time for bread and fish, I asked...
I asked them to cancel it and I put my head back on my desk, what I heard next was crazy laughter.
"Chairmo of little faith"
"You dey lead us but you wan give up on us"
Appaz someone spoke to their parent and they sent us 36k. That N36k felt like N36m. Bread and fish went on!
That experience taught me grit, if the engine is always grinding, somehow the oil will always find its way in.
I don't give up until it's finally over and even when it is, I still try, I am still looking and waiting for a miracle, an opportunity.
That experience taught me that...
Not everyone is poor at the same time, if you are in abundance when there's drought the right attitude is to share your excess with those who don't have, not to hoard.
Those who hoarded palliatives/stolen cash till most of it expired/went bad didn't benefit themselves nor others.
Use this #MondayMotivation take hold body.
"Somebody may share his things with other people, but he still becomes richer. Somebody else may keep the things that he should give to others, but he still becomes poor. If you help other people with your money, you will do well."
Take this extra verse for the road:
"If you give water to thirsty people, you will not be thirsty yourself."
Proverbs 11:24-25 EASY
