"Overpopulation" discourse is almost exclusively high emitters bitching about too many low emitters. That's eco-fascism.
[total emissions] = [per capita] x [population]
Fascism says let's reduce population (bcs obviously I'm not changing my lifestyle)
Climate justice says let's reduce the per capita emissions (starting with the rich)
It's like having a group of 10 people in a small boat, 1 person weighs 1500 lbs and the other 9 weigh 75 lbs each. Talking about "overpopulation" without that context is highly problematic.
The boat doesn't have a population limit, it has a weight limit.
Earth doesn't have a population limit, it has a consumption/emissions limit. If everyone on earth had the footprint of the "rest of world" group, we'd be within carrying capacity. #EatTheRich
No meat eater ever gets to use the word overpopulation. Guess who eats most of that beef... it ain't poor ppl, it definitely isn't India. It's a small percentage of global wealthy causing massively outsized ecological damage.
There also seems to be remarkable overlap btwn hi emitters bitching about population and also complaining about China being highest emitter in the world, which is not true in any meaningful sense.
It's psbl that the reason twitter board agreed /seemed eager to sell is bcs twitter had become too useful as a tool for the left / working class organizers, and they were facing an uphill battle fighting that and decided to let a rich idiot take the fall they knew had to happen.
Twitter is the closest to freedom of the press that most of us in America have ever experienced. As sad as that is, we should be totally clear that had to brought under control. Prvious owners rolled out "Russia state affiliated media" labels on US citizens, among other efforts
There is no lefty organizing on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc. Twitter was unique in that regard. Not only political leftists, but other status quo challengers like scientists/ doctors spreading real actual covid info counter to US govt propaganda. All threats.
