🧵 1/ While y'all are sparring over mandatory masks, I have taken a deep dive into the children's medicine supply shortages.
Frustrated that the MSM is focusing on the increased demand and nobody is covering the supply seriously, I did my own digging #TylenolShortage #Sickkids
2/ This was no surprise.
Feb 28, 2020 - (yes 2020) "Because the active ingredients of most generic drugs come from China and India, including 84% of the world’s supply of acetaminophen, the coronavirus could cause supply disruptions, experts warn." latimes.com/business/story…
3/ China is undoubtedly facing many factors that can contribute to supply and supply chain disruptions.
November 9, 2022 - "China’s southern metropolis of Guangzhou has locked down more than 5 million residents" cnn.com/2022/11/09/chi…
4/Back in March 2020, India actually outright halted export of 26 APIs & formulations for 3 months, including paracetamol - an ingredient in Tylenol
That they haven't this time is a good sign.
5/ Keep in mind, these are ingredients only. CDN manufacturers produce the end product right here in Canada.
The previous tweets deal with the ingredient shortage that stated this, now lets look at the chain of events that made it worse than it had to be
6/ First cold & flu season came early. Demand exceeded usual demands in July-August. With that slow down, one pharmacy's not well thought out message turned into an MSM meltdown. People panicked, hoarding began.
7/ Speaking of people panicking...
"..parents taking their kids to the emergency department in order to get pain and fever-reducing medication is putting additional stress on Ontario's already overcrowded ERs"
Seriously people. Talk to your pharmacist. cbc.ca/news/canada/sh…
8/ While the labeling issue also contributed, it was a minor factor in the supply chain problem. While it would have addressed the access to necessary medications, which was vital, it would have been a band-aid, not a solution.
9/ **This space reserved for my opinion of those who have bubble wrapped their children and bathed them in sanitizer for nearly three years**
Some things just shouldn't need to be said
10/ But now, as the pharmaceutical industry is telling us the end of the supply shortage for Children's Tylenol and Advil is nearing, we look at why our troubles are not over.
Because those are not the only drugs needed for children that are experiencing supply shortages.
11/ Amoxicillin, commonly prescribed for children, is facing what could be a much worse supply chain disruption.
And this isn't just a CDN problem. It's global
12/ Yep, you read that right. Energy crisis. Manufacturing in the EU has been hit hard and the pharmaceutical industry is not immune. That will have a global impact.
13/ So now we have overextended hospitals, the risk of children getting sicker than they normally would because of a short supply of antibiotics and a rise of RSV's.
Is this sounding familiar?
It should.
It's March 2020 all over again.
Roll out the "get vaccinated" ads
14/ But this time, it's not just Covid boosters, especially for our children. It's the Flu vaccines in the spotlight now.
If you are thinking about Pfizer right now, think again.
There is another company that just signed a deal in July with the GoC for flu shots. GSK.
15/ "GSK renewed its supply agreement with the WHO in June, inked a deal with the Government of Canada for both seasonal and pandemic influenza vaccines in July" worldpharmatoday.com/news/85mn-pand…
16/ Oh, before I forget to mention, GSK is also one of Canada's pharmaceutical companies who've registered they are experiencing demand based shortages of... you guessed it... Amoxicillin drugshortagescanada.ca/drug/2306
17/ One of the biggest risks children face when not receiving adequate medical care when they get the flu or RSVs (or even if they do) is the risk of pneumonia.
But fear not, GSK bought Affinivax. A company working on a pneumococcal pneumonia vaccine
18/ "Affinivax is pioneering the development of a novel class of vaccines, the most advanced of which are next-generation pneumococcal vaccines."
"Phase II clinical trials started in June 2022 to assess the use of the vaccine in the paediatric population."
20/ I know GSK already has a pneumonia vaccine that's been on the market for over 10 years, but... "Affinivax has pioneered the development of a novel class of vaccines, the most advanced of which are next-generation pneumococcal vaccines."
22/ So, we are well into March 2020 - 2.0
The Tylenol & amoxicillin shortages are real and serious problems.
Vaccines that have gone through the proper processes prior to approval are needed, but have we set the standard for bending the rules designed to protect us?
23/ Repackaging foreign sourced meds & fast tracking vaccines is not a solution to the real problem. Strapping masks on 2 year olds isn't either
Our drug supply is at the mercy of other countries & with today's global unrest, that should scare you most cp24.com/lifestyle/heal…
24/ I know this may come off as a conspiracy theory to some, but I have lost all faith in both our government and pharmaceutical companies to do what's best for people over what's best for vote banks and pocket books, respectively. /End

This is the most insidious part of the whole thing. The act was declared Feb 15th. They created a new set of rules and are retroactively punishing people harshly for doing something they had no idea, at the time they donated, was going to grow into something "illegal" 1/
Does anyone know, what date was the protest declared "illegal" by the authorities?
I don't mean what day a politician or police chief Tweeted it
I mean when was any official documentation signed & presented to the public? Or was Feb 15 the 1st time it was declared officially? 2/
Our nation, and every province and territory in it, has an Emergency Broadcast system.
Did anyone receive a message regarding the "National State of Emergency"?
How about Ford's Provincial one?
I know I received them back in 2020 for the pandemic 3/
This was very hard for me to watch.
I grew up in Chilliwack and in 30 years saw many floods, and even when I left BC in 1998, the calls to do something about the aging and inadequate dikes were loud and clear
You hear about 1894, 1948 etc but 1/ #BCFlood gem.cbc.ca/media/the-fift…
what you don't hear about is what happens every year. Flooding is a part of life in the FV. Obviously not to this scale, but to hear the Abbotsford Mayor say he opted not to send out an emergency alert because "people could just look out their window" absolutely infuriates me
2/
To know that these people, who are accustomed to annual flooding, where not alerted to the severity of this flood just because the 160K people not impacted might "get upset" is a line of thinking I can't even comprehend.

1/ I am about to open up about getting health care in Saskatchewan during the COVID pandemic. After months of delaying taking the step to detox from alcohol addiction under proper medical supervision, my husband's health took a turn for the worse and he could no longer put it off
2/ Yesterday, I took him to the local ER. The situation was dire and the measure was recommended by both his mental health councilor and his Dr.
Upon arrival at about 10 am, he was already so heavily intoxicated he could barely walk.
3/ It was a real eye opener to see the range of reactions. The best being the admissions clerk who immediately evaluated the situation and brought him a wheelchair, the second worse being the intake nurse who asked him questions for 5 minutes before it dawned on her he was drunk
Stay Home! Stay Home!
Unless you need to do a high risk activity like helping your NL liberal friends go door to door potential spreading COVID through their whole community #RulesForThee
This INFURIATES me.
The entire basis of taking away the rights of healthy people is based on the pretense that "even if you are feeling healthy, you may have the virus and be spreading it"
But @SeamusORegan seems confident HE isn't unknowingly spreading the virus #RulesForThee
