In a world where everyone has a fated pair, a lover, both parties are connected by a red string where only one chosen pair can see it, meaning they can only see

their partner's fated string connecting to theirs, no one else's.

The fated pair to get the "red sight" as people would call it, would get them once they've turned eighteen years of age. Normally, this leads them to finding their soul mate quickly, for those past eighteen years

they've surely met their soulmate at least once, they could even be your best friend, your sibling's friend, classmate, someone you hate, or anyone really. They are also bound to a red string tied around their finger in a ring like structure with the rest of the string fading

into the air, making sure their soulmate would notice the string around their finger to check if the other is lying. They can only see the string if the fated pair reveals the truth that they can see the string by the way.

And now, here's a story that parents would tell their

children to warn them about the consequences of the red string, a famous tale told by all if you must.

Kim dokja was a strange child. Always too quite, burying his face into books, never looking up from them. Despite that, he managed to be on the top of his classes

and somehow win thousands of awards for any school he goes to. Some of the students say that he is a perfectionist, someone who makes sures everything is perfect, a person who refuses to accept any standard short of perfection.

That can't be the same for his childhood though.

Growing up in a household where his father...let's just say he isn't one that loves him. Where his mother would protect him, taking all the hits and cuts. Sometimes, his mother wasn't there to protect him, resulting in a series of bruises and blood.

As he grew up, his view of

the world change, turning the once black and white world to that of colour when he met his found family at 16. Though they approached him first, Kim dokja still wonders what if they havent approached him and left him to die. He is grateful for them even though he doesn't show it.

Then one day, he meets Yoo joonghyuk, someone who would be his downfall in the future. He met the boy when he was 17, alone in a dark alleyway. He remembers how Yoo joonghyuk looked like he was dying, and it awfully reminded him of well, him. So, he picked Joonghyuk's heavy body

up and ran to the nearest hospital. The next day when Joonghyuk opens his eyes, he's met with a boy whose sleeping at his side.

From then on, their relationship grew, the saviour and the victim. Joonghyuk would nag Kim dokja all day just so he can eat, and when Joonghyuk was

sick, Kim dokja would take care of him all day, Sooyoung making a remark that he was some dedicated wife or something. And to be honest? He kind of was. It was...relaxing to be around Yoo joonghyuk at the very least. Except for Joonghyuk choking him of course.

Kind dokja thinks

that Joonghyuk might have a kink for choking but the one time he'd actually said it out loud it got him another round of choking but this time he almost died so-

The day when Kim dokja hit 18, he was so happy. He finally saw his string. The very string that attached him to

Yoo joonghyuk. Needless to say, he was surprised but not surprised at the same time.

But..he can't help but feel something was wrong. Like something wasn't meant to be.

And so, he waited. He didn't tell Yoo joonghyuk to see what had happened, to give him time to figure out what

that missing piece was. After all, he was considered a perfectionist.

Then, he saw Yoo Joonghyuk with flowers. A girl was standing infront of him. A red string connecting both of them.

That day, Kim dokja's heart broke.

That day, Yoo Joonghyuk’s heart fluttered.

A few days

later, Joonghyuk introduced the girl to them, Lee seolhwa. She was pretty and smart, skilled in medicine. Kim dokja actually took a liking to her as a close friend, he couldn't hate her for supposedly taking away his soulmate. Sometimes he wonders what if he had told Joonghyuk

that he was his soulamte straight away. Would they be lovers? But he can't regret now, especially after seeing how joonghyuk was happy with seolhwa. Sure he was heart broken at first but after time, the scar on his heart worsen. It was like the string of fate made it inside his

body, the string wrapping around his poor beating heart and engraved a deeper scar on it with each passing day. He felt like his was dying, energy constantly drained but still having to put on a smile for others. But no matter what, Kim dokja held on. If he can't be by his

soulmate's side as a lover, he will do so as a best friend. Kim dokja stayed by Yoo Joonghyuk's side all while watching them go on dates and being happier than before. Dare he say happier than Joonghyuk ever was with him. And that was okay.

So when Lee seolhwa turned 18, she was

ecstatic. She immediately told Yoo joonghyuk that she was his fated one and after 4 years, Kim dokja got an invitation to a marriage. Of course, as Yoo Joonghyuk's best friend and supposed soulmate, he had to go.

Thus, he went out and bought the most expensive suit he's ever

had and some gifts for the couple. The string on his heart tightened when he saw Joonghyuk kissing Seolhwa at the marriage venue. His breathing almost stopped but he held on. He didn't want to ruin his best friend's wedding day. He wanted it to be perfect. After the wedding,

Yoo sangah actually asked him who his soulmate was since one of their friends have already found them. They were all sitting at a round table, Lee seolhwa and Yoo joonghyuk beside each other. They all leaned in to hear what Kim dokja was going to reply.

"My string is connected

far away. I think they're in another country so I'm making plans to leave Korea soon."

When in reality that string was connected to a person only a few chairs away.

So, to keep with with his lie, Kim dokja left Korea a month later, and with one last hug to everyone, and a

small gift from Yoo joonghyuk, Kim dokja left. He left without ever looking back, the string on his hand still tied with Joonghyuk's.

Why did the string not break? Perhaps he was still in love with Joonghyuk.

But whatever. Now, he is going to live his last few months of living.

On the day of Joonghyuk and Seolhwa's anniversary, they got a call from a hospital in Berlin, saying that their friend Kim dokja had died. Now their perfect anniversary was so called ruined by the news.

Kim dokja knew it was their anniversary so he tried to hold on longer,

but to no avail he couldn't and let himself go filled with regrets. He just wanted his best friend and soulmate to be happy and have a perfect day on his anniversary so why did he have to go and ruin everything with his death?

It's like the string was taunting him.
