Let's start with what a scam is:

It's dishonesty. What Mary did and has continued to do is be dishonest. Image
She lifted resources from other content creators and led people to believe they were her's based on "years" of experience. Image
Those participating in the victim-blaming and saying these people should have done their research, well here's some research:

finance.yahoo.com/news/meet-blac…

afrotech.com/mytechbestfrie…

businessinsider.com/tech-educator-…

bamtheagency.com/blog/101-black…
Now there is also negative info out there too, but the average person sees these type of articles, the countless "testimonials", and her being supported by other big names in #BlackTechTwitter and you tell me what probably made them feel like it was a somewhat safe choice.
I guarantee they saw these and not your Tweets buried in your timeline.
Also, victim-blaming is exactly why so many people in our community never come out and talk about any abuse they have endured, cause there's always people like y'all waiting in the wing with:

Really encouraging.
Mary also told students to used MTBF on their resume & LinkedIn not as a bootcamp, but as an employer.

Dishonest.
She provided resume services which was just her using the same experience and information on every students resume and bullied those who didnt want to use those services.

Dishonest.
She told students to embellish their experience, added experience where there was none, and follow a script for interviews.

Dishonest.
Anyways, there are countless threads from actual students on what was going on. Y'all now go do YOUR research and actually hear the truth.

Y'all keep asking how to get into #infosec & #cybersecurity so I'm just going to share what I normally tell people.

🧵👇
First off, cybersecurity is huge. Asking how to get in and for us to give you a roadmap is not the way.

Stop it. ✋

My path was different from so-and-so and theirs was different from mine. There is no one right way to get in.
The question you should be asking is this:

"What problems do I want to solve?" 🤔

Identify your interests, the skills you currently have, and the knowledge you carry with you from your current job/career.

This will help guide you towards areas you might do well in.

📢 Job Search Tip 📢

Both LinkedIn and Indeed utilize boolean searches, which means you can use mathematical operators to improve your job search.

Sounds complicated? Well, it's actually really easy and I'll show you how.

👇
First, you'll need to understand what operators you can use.

👉 Quotes for exact phrases: " "
👉 Parentheses for complex searches that combine words: ( )
👉 NOT to exclude specific words
👉 AND to include all words
👉 OR to include one or more words
Say you're looking for a Network Engineer role, but keep seeing Security Engineer jobs. To narrow down the search results you'd use this search query:

✅ "network engineer" NOT (cybersecurity OR security)

Which on LinkedIn knocks down the results from 195,714 to 1,189.

If you're transitioning into tech and don't know how to find the right keywords for your resume or LinkedIn, here's my secret:

Use a word cloud generator ☁️

Here's my exact process:

🧵
👉 Create a new Word or Google doc

👉 Go to LinkedIn or Indeed and search for job titles you're interested in

👉 Copy the whole job description into your doc

👉 Now repeat at least 10 more times

👉 Head over to monkeylearn.com/word-cloud/
👉 Copy all the job descriptions from your doc into the text box

👉 Click "Generate cloud"

💥 Boom! You now have a list of the top keywords/phrases across all those job descriptions.

I do a lot of resume writing on the side for those who can't afford expensive resume writing services and need help transitioning into tech.

Here's my quick guide to improving your resume:

🧵
1. Your header should be simple. List only:

👉Your name
👉 Current city & state
👉 Phone number
👉 Email (use only a professional one with your name in it)
👉 LinkedIn (set one up if you don't have one)
2. You have limited space to tell an effective story about your accomplishments, so don't waste that space on a summary.

Use LinkedIn for more in-depth detail about yourself. 👍
