Ivan Katchanovski is a political scientist at the Univ. of Ottawa. He writes a lot about Ukraine, far right groups, Maidan & Russia. You might see him in interviews or cited by leftist anti-Ukraine people. He wrote an article last month. I read it and include below some excerpts.
These may be useful in refuting claims (if you like arguing with the tankies). In order to seem reasonable to their peers, academics often give both sides of an issue. To appeal to tankies he has more strident rhetoric. At the corner of reason & rhetoric is bonking ground.
The source
Katchanovski: the Russian invasion was illegal.
Katchanovski: Russia has killed most of the civilians who died this year.
Katchanovski: Russian attacks were responsible for the vast majority of civilian deaths even in Donbas.
Katchanovski: Russian claims of false flag attacks are untrue.
Katchanovski: Overwhelming evidence proves that Russia committed war crimes in Bucha.
Katchanovski: There was no genocide in Donbas - most civilians there weee killed by Russia.
p.s. don’t tell anyone we did research or they’ll call us nerds - gay Satanist nazi nerd fart-fetishists who are 60 and live in our mother’s basement with our hot Ukrainian girlfriends
Uh oh. Either he searches for his name every few hours or I’ve got a secret friend. Hello secret friend - I love you!

Who are the two academics (Gerhard Mangott and Johannes Varwick) that AfD says NAFO has harassed? Let’s find out together!
Mangott had an attack of the vapors when the mean cartoon dogs suggested that spending 6 years in Putin’s Valdai club didn’t make him a neutral observer.
While bemoaning NAFO’s dirty methods Gerhard was reduced to calling us idiots, clowns, fools and a brood 🤷♂️.
Also, apparently we sued him or something?
Johannes’ AfD friends clearly don’t understand what academic freedom is since NAFO definitely doesn’t control any academic/scientific institutions. 🤫
Here, in no particular order, are a bunch of folks fundraising nonlethal aid for Ukraine. If you don’t see your favorites add them in replies.
I hope no one is offended if I haven’t listed them - this is just a quick crowdsourced beginning.
What is ‘Nonlethal?’
I’ve operationalized it to exclude weapons or other items designed to kill enemies. Protective gear, combat medicine & vehicles don’t do that even though they are related to combat.
Some groups do both types of projects - check the one that’s right for you.
Why This List?
We need to grow the donor base & some folks don’t support lethal aid. It’s up to us to connect those donors with projects they support. If new donors can handle more of the general aid then it frees up money for other needed projects like drones, EW & bonksticks.
I started writing emails to the White House again.
What’s different is now I feature comments made here on twitter by Ukrainians.
1. “I will never forgive @POTUS for creating an illusion of willingness to help Ukraine win without ever intending to.”
.
2. “For the last 2 years whenever russia committed another atrocity I kept hoping that would be it, that the free world would say "Enough is enough" & stop the terrorist federation.
I was wrong.
But if humanity isn't aiming to stop such atrocities, then what is it aiming for?”
3. “Only today russia already killed three children in Ukraine, a 12 years old boy in Donetsk region, a 10 years old girl in Odesa region and a 14 years old girl in Kharkiv region…
Stephen complained about how people didn’t like his idea that Ukraine should surrender.
“anyone who points this out and offers a serious alternative is likely to be loudly and harshly condemned and almost certain to be ignored by the relevant political leaders.”
Some thoughts about nuclear war 🧵
***You might not be in the right head space to read more about this at the moment. It’s fine to return to it later or just ignore it altogether.
1/ Nuclear war, threats, power, weapons and more have been in the news a lot this past year. Just the phrase ‘nuclear war’ is scary like ‘cancer’ or ‘climate change.’ Its easy to shy away from thinking about scary stuff.
2/ But humans usually don’t make good decisions when they’re scared. So, my purpose here is to de-scarify the subject and suggest some sources (both general and specific to the war of Russian aggression) if you’d like to read more.
