Great to see other Yes groups forming in the South of Scotland, we need as many people as possible out campaigning, knocking on doors and engaging in conversations. A couple of points to make...
First, I don't know anyone in the Borders who identifies themselves as from the South of Scotland. They're Borderers. It used to drive my flatmate in Westminster @ArklessRichard mad when people referred to all of the South as the Borders. 😂 Regional and local identities matter.
Any South of Scotland group needs to reflect on this and consider its purpose. In 2013 I set up Yes Scottish Borders as a way for all Yes groups in the region to collaborate. It worked well and the days of action when we all went em masse to one town were a particular highlight.
Even then the local campaigns were the key - Yes Gala, Yes Hawick, Yes Tweeddale etc. It's also important to note that many of these groups have kept the embers glowing and almost all that disappeared are now re-forming. Those that still need help to get going again will get it.
We're excited to get going again, and at the end of last month Yes Scottish Borders met and I'm pleased to confirm I was elected co-convenor with @AbsoluteGinius. This is about people who are passionate about independence, about a common aim and passion, not party politics.
Watch this space for more information, and if you want to get involved and connected with your local Yes group please get in touch. If there is no local Yes group we will help you set it up! #YouYesYet

The UK Gov declined more ambitious full fibre option, or even universal coverage, when looking at the roll out of superfast broadband. They set a target of 95% - not 100%, 95%! Where did these rural Tory MPs think the 5% would be?! #clueless#selfinflicted#SNPsortingToryFail
Their answer for the final 5%? A Universal Service Obligation. The UK-wide USO provides a legal right to request a broadband connection of 10M
download & 1M upload, up to a reasonable cost threshold (£3400).
Ofcom is working on the delivery, expected to be available next year..
Worth noting SNP proposed a 30M USO, arguing 10M was insufficient, cementing in the digital divide, not closing it. 30M would've given parity for all citizens, but also critically necessitated a different approach (more fibre) meaning less chance of the gap opening up in future.
