The No COVID Chandelier is HERE!
Just in time for Thanksgiving
18 fans, 990cfm raw, 2x 14x30 @3M Filtretes. 46db. Cleans the aerosols straight from up the table, spreads clean air in 360 directions at all the guests. #crbox
Fandelier has been coined by a few of you. I like it! The song is the inimitable Post Malone singing second half of his song Waiting For a Miracle which is just a freaking great vocal performance w/ best reverb ever. The view from dinner tonight, no guests just us:
“And everything done for the dead after they're dead is for the living
And everything done while they're dead goddammit, that's our decision
I kept my eyes closed, it was easy, now I see it with perfect vision
And everything done for the dead after they're dead is for the living
Fuck me up
Fuck it, get fucked up, hey
Fuck me up, hey
And stay fucked up”
So you need:
18 120mm fans.
-Antec P12 PWM if you don’t want lights $112/20
Novonest auto rainbow PWM if you want colors but easy build $120/18
-Asiahorse S001 or any other controller based fans will be most complex, with hundreds of light patterns, more fun, cost
Finally you need 2 14x30 Filtrete 1900 filters and masking tape, white or black based on your fans. You will also need a 12V 5A power supply for the easier 2 12V-only fans, with an added 5V/3A+ PS if you have a controller. This is a quick BOM for DIY savvy ppl.
And it wouldn’t be one of my threads without a night vid. No music so you can hear the Fandelier’s own sound
Well, this blew up! Thanks for all the appreciation; I’ve blocked a few sars2 denialists/homophobes who mockingly QT’d it (why?). All good. To be clear, I made this in about 30 mins, Jerry rigged a way to hang it n made the vid. I would hang/wire differently for actual install

Fresh #crbuild@robwiss mega-sandwich style. 2x @3m Filtrete 14x30, 12 (new record?) fans total, 6 Asiahorse s001 on top and 2x Matrix 360 3-fan units for the sides. 660cfm raw. 2 controllers for visual fx, overkill. Finally you can eat without worries 😄#crbox#corsirosenthalbox
Some stills. I will try and post a complete parts list but I’d like to simplify it first, this was made from a bunch of stuff I had rather than tuned for ease of build
567 CADR, theoretical. 41db 1m from the filter face, 45db 1m out from the fan. Pretty quiet, quieter than 9 fan AL Panel because it has 3 more fans but double the filter surface area. Much less resistance so fans run quieter, more cadr.
An easier to make and service 9 fan #ALPanel for you all! I realize wiring is the hard part so this is all just connector plugs, no tricky wiring and no controller. Added a plenum that makes swapping out the filter a cinch. And finally finger guards. Rainbow ONLY Details in 🧵
With all the parts, it’s like legos. Total around $140
-3x 3 packs Novonest Auto Rainbow 120mm fans
-14x14x1 @3M Filtrete MERV13 + Box it came in
-12V/3A Power Supply
4x 4-way fan connectors (Etsy)
2x 2-way fan connectors (Etsy, optional)
9x fan finger guards black
Black tape
Unpack 9 fans, line them up in a grid. Run wires carefullly. Orientation doesn’t matter for LEDs, I adjust fans so wires meet up with about the same length sticking out. Test. Merge with 4 ways. I used 2 ways to channel the wires, not nec tho. Test again. All wires are 4 pin fan
My biggest Air and Light Panel, or AL Panel, in the style of CR Box natch. A mere 1.9” thick! 9 white RGB fans taped to a filtrete 14x14x1 merv 13. Fans are rated 495cfm on max, CADR unknown. No floorspace nec; hang it on the wall, tilted enough for good airflow. #ALPanel#CRBox
Now I’m sucking through the filter, but these fans we part of my previous CR Box that was pushing through the filters. Took a long time to clean the fans, can’t recommend pushing! Get the air cleaned before hitting the fans, always, even if it looks worse
In horizontal position it has a pretty sci-fi vibe. Reactor core / space ship vibez.
I’ve never introduced this particular CR Box. It’s made with my favorite fans for single fan Mini CRs, Silverstone Air Penetrator 184i. Has a special grille that makes a good column of air @ 143cfm and 34.5db. Fits perfectly with 4x Levoit H128 Hepa filters.
Lots of requests for details on how I made it so I will get a parts list and some more pix later for y’all. It really just as easy as a standard CR to put together, maybe easier.
Here’s the most COVID song ever, In The Air Tonight, on the RGB CR Box tower of power. All fans are CR Boxes. I don’t think it makes it to the “climax” of this song so I might have to post part 2. #corsirosenthalbox
Ok there’s been a lot of discussion about bad air in hotel rooms today. My orange microCR didn’t push enough air, but this MiniCR does. It’s a bit big for plane, but it packs flat. Question is: White/Pink or BLACK/PINK? #corsirosenthalbox#crbox#minicr@JimRosenthal4@linseymarr
This is how I get battery power for my RGB CR Box builds. I’ve pinned it to the top of my profile because it’s used in all of them. This design allows for 7.5 watts of Fan and 7.5w of RGB, using USB-A. I have a more powerful USB-C design that allows for 36w fans and 15w rgb
