These are pictures of the „new“ service rifle of the German army, the HK416A8.

A short thread on the gun, and how it is a good(and bad) procurement.
#miltwitter Image
Starting from the muzzle, the first positive item:
the muzzle device is the (formerly) optional one, that was made specifically for QD mounting Surpressors built for NATO flash hiders. The grooves aid mounting and prevent carbon seize up, an excellent choice.
Next up, we can see that the barrels have a bajonet lug.
Not really useful for bajonet mounting, but still useful for other accessories.
Next up is the adjustable gas block, very good choice, but sadly covered by a horrible choice: a HKKey Handguard.
This is a proprietary locking mechanism, that should have been done in MLOK. There is NO HKKey ecosystem, so all you get is adding picatinny bits.

Horrible .
On the side of the handguard, we see another terrible idea of a procurement project. Why have this horrible HKKey Slingmount. No QD anywhere, mlok would allow for direct slinging.
Very bad choice, unnecessary weight.
The only good things on the bastard Handguard: a very crisp flip up BUIS, and a QD Lock for the Handguard. OTOH you never need to clean under the Handguard or short stroke piston, I believe QD will last longer than a bolt, as recruits would kill the threads. Probably wise.
Upper: very good BUIS, no problems here.
Lower:
416 have a “modern” pistol grip that is very steep. This very old school, high angle grip is proof of “traditional” thinking with the evaluation team.
It is painful to see such an outdated grip angle on a modern gun.
The “winter” trigger guard is great, it was wise not to remove it. The 45 degree safety is also good.
Now to the shoulder side of the gun: it’s horrible, the old adjustable stock is too heavy and “wrong”.
Whoever evaluated the gun did not know that you shoot the AR NOtCH.
As I have ~ 20 k rounds through my gun (semi ver of a5) in the past years, I hope this context helps. Will add@more info later, if you have questions, just ask.
I can also disassemble and post pics.
Some more points:

The Isoceles based "Kontaktstellung" is taught, and this is where a steep grip is far superior. Yet they procure a very old school grip angle.
Understanding that they do not get this, is just "wow".
See picture from
augengeradeaus.net/2018/02/schies… Image
This picture from HK itself shows the far steeper Grip on the "non Bundeswehr" gun, a far superior design.

Hint for the individual Soldier: it is a simple swap, the more modern "V7" Grip is only ~45 EUR. Image
Also visible on the gun above is the "Slimline Buttstock", it is far nicer to use than the bulky one with the "adjustable cheek".

The adjustable cheek is another "odd" choice, as AR-15 allow for a perfect cheek weld close to the system, which makes for a very stable platform.
The last of the "three items", after Stock and Grip, to make the gun significantly better, would be swapping the Handguard for a Geissele.

Super light weight, very very comfy to hold, and with a QD tab and "Rails where you need them", MLOK on the rest.

Thats all, hope it can be some inspiration for my Dscherman "soon to be 416 users" aka @Ausb_Eins @EinstEinAdler @einsteinradler @JPW_FIDES @gepardtatze @Grnfink2 @HalibutAngry
Probably also interesting for @TheAKGuy @firearmblog @HecklerAndKoch @HKshooting :o

To celebrate, as @TBrit90 called it, "VDV deletion appreciation day", enjoy the following thread:
All VDV, all high quality, restored footage from that day, starting of with the failed assault from the russian view.

Enjoy, like, share, subscribe!
My favourite Video from the early phase of the war. RU Mi-8 and Mi-24 moving to Hostomel (above invasion force), low over Kyiv Reservoir.

DWA !!! DWAAAAAAAAAA!!!
MANPADS were a thing, @MerenzSophia take notice.
Stabilized reprocessed further footage of that VDV Assault.
The Myria Hangar can briefly be seen.

A brief thread on the Shahed 136 aka GERAN Loitering Munition "Drone" used by Russia against #ukraine.

To the surprise of many, it is a story about the hostility to Innovation by the German Miltiary ( hi BaainBw !)

Thread: Image
The root of the concept is from the 1980ies, called the DORNIER DAR (Drone, Anti Radar).
It was supposed to be a low cost mass launched loitering munitions that would home in on Russian Air Defence Emissions, and destroy them with 0 Risk to the Operator.

Here is a pic(oops!) Image
Interestingly, this concept was so innovative that, of course, it did not catch on with the GAF.
The operational concept was far ahead of the time, with road based Launch Trucks for 3 or 6 Drones at a time, to release mayhem. Image

This is confirmed in multiple locations, on the mentioned frequencies, either directly or via web-sdr.

I consider this very concerning, as this could be a strategic contingency planning of RU strategic rocket forces.

I have failed finding a similar signal on

Did anyone confirm the signal in USA yet? or is it rather confined to Europe?sigidwiki.com/wiki/Template:…

Here my takeaways for the hard lessons of the #UkraineRussianWar #ukraine (🧵):

Lesson #1: We do not yet know if the current war is the "scale" that we have to deal with, or if this war will only be seen as a precursor to a bigger, global conflict.
We should plan accordingly.
Lesson #2:
The number one gamechanger in this war are small, commercial off the shelf drones. Most Armies are not prepared AT ALL, and not supplied at all, while in reality, it should be a core capability from the platoon up.
Drones are the Binocular of the 21st century. Image
Lesson #3:
Dictatorships have no problem wasting endless lives. RU Sacrificed 200k of its poor people. Can the free world deal with NK, CN etc willing to commit going beyond 20m people?
The free world is not ready for this, but we have to be, if we are to remain free.

Nukes and #iran, what could be done to stop that (by #USA or #Israel)?
With a high chance of a kinetic outcome to the Iran #nuclear ambitions, lets see what could happen.

Allow me to boringly present the results of armchair-ing and sim using @CommandDevTeam (long thread!) : twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
@CommandDevTeam Lets understand the criteria for mission accomplished. I assume the following:
a) Nuclear Material Stocks are split between two hardened and well defended Fuel Enrichment Plants (FEP)
b) These two are assumed to be the hardened underground facilites at #Natanz and #Fordow
@CommandDevTeam Natanz is located at 33°43′30″N 51°43′30″E and hardened, underground and strongly defended by Anti Air Artillery (AAA) and Surface to Air Missles (SAM).
This site is vast, with over 100,000 m², and very well protected, see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_f…

Russia has published a Video of a "sabotage Group" killed in Bryansk Border Region.
TL;DR I believe it is staged.
#ukraine #UkraineRussianWar️ #UkraineRussiaWar

Here are my findings 🧵: Image
The "big" thing on this video is:
They must be western saboteurs, because they use SIG Sauer MPX 9mm Submachine guns, previously not seen in the war.
We can indeed see 9mm MPX,these are indeed Sig Sauer MPX 9mm Magazines.

Notice something? They are empty. Lets dig deeper.
Notice the gun on the right: it is being blurred in a very telling spot. This spot is where US military weapons have their UID code, a QR code used for identification purposes in the US Military since 2007. It is blurred, and only on one gun. Do you notice another thing? :) Image
