Fuentes was able to wed his hardline white nationalism & antisemitism with cogent critiques of the conservative establishment, & showed enough discipline (for a time) to craft a groyper message that could appeal to many on the rightward flank of the big-tent MAGA movement
Today, the white Christian nationalism & virulent anti-LGBTQ bigotry that used to get him & others banned from most right-wing spaces has mostly moved mainstream. The only remaining firewall is open, explicit antisemitism. Enter Kanye.
Right now Ye has taken a heavy hit for his antisemitism, but there’s no guarantee that will stick for two years in a conservative movement awash w/self-styled outsiders & victims, when Ye can brand himself as the foremost victim of cancel culture
If there’s anything the Trump presidency taught us it’s to expect the unexpected, & don’t underestimate the potential for a clown show to succeed in clown world. Ye might not be a ‘serious’ presidential contender but his stunts could still be influential
If Ye maintains a drumbeat of public attention, even without meaningful electoral support he can still float ‘dangerous ideas’-- chief among them, open antisemitism– into the conservative conversation that wouldn’t otherwise get a hearing
Fuentes can use Ye as a platform to add open, explicit antisemitism into the Right’s already toxic brew of Soros, ‘groomer’, anti-globalist, cultural Marxist, & other ‘implicit’ antisemitic conspiracy discourse– with the scaffolding of Christian nationalism
Conservative leaders can watch closely, see which interventions gain traction & adopt them for their own use. That has always been the goal of white nationalist metapolitics- using strategic cultural intervention to move the Overton window of acceptable speech & thought
If it lasts #YE24 won’t be a ‘traditional’ presidential campaign. The goal may not even be to get Ye on the ballot. Nick & Milo may see it as the ‘culture jamming’ vehicle for a new alt-right, pushing Trump & others towards more extreme positions- which could be just as dangerous
