1. I want to mourn the loss of #IreneCara. For those of us who came of age when FAME was released, she was the star we wanted to be when we grew up.
Cont…
2. She was a legit triple threat: dancing in the classic “the darker the berry, the sweeter the juice” scene AND giving a brilliant/real/devastating performance when she is manipulated into exposing herself to a photographer. And, of course, that voice.

3. She should have done film after film and, of course, more Broadway. She did become a legit pop star and her music will live on. I never met her, but, boy, did she influence me and so many of my generation.
Here she is singing the title song she will always be associated with-
4. As well as the song that gave our generation the drive and spirit to pursue the arts.
Fun tidbit: when they filmed this scene, the song wasn’t ready so they are all dancing to HOT STUFF! Same tempo!
Irene Cara, you will be missed but not forgotten.

1. PLEASE be outraged everytime you see a paltry sum of musicians referred to as an "orchestra". They are a BAND. This kind of mislabeling by respected so-called critics is one of the reasons we have lost full orchestras on Broadway. Cont.
2. Audiences are ignorant and we need to keep them informed that they are paying more money for Broadway tickets that EVER before... for shows with a fraction of the orchestras we used to have. A loss I lament all the time.
JUST when I made it to Broadway in the early 90s, orchestras started getting smaller and smaller. And lately, they are using these tiny bands under the guise of "It's pop! That's the style of the show". Bullshit. PIPPIN and BABY were pop scores and had full orchestras.
