A win by ESP, JPN, CRC sees respective team through to the knockout.
GER must win, and need some help.
ESP can lose and still go through. Others are out if they lose.
ESP 🇪🇸 1. win or draw vs JPN 2. loss => probably OK, it can be complicated
We'll get to the complications below.
JPN 🇯🇵 1. win 2. draw + CRC-GER draw or GER victory by exactly 1 goal. GER gets the tiebreaker (GD) by winning by 2 or more goals.
CRC 🇨🇷 1. win 2. draw + JPN loss
GER 🇩🇪 1. 2-goal win + JPN draw or loss 2. 1-goal win + JPN loss 3. A big win vs CRC + ESP loss*
There is a complicated scenario if JPN manages to beat ESP by a small margin. GER needs to win big to over take ESP in GD or goals scored.
To wit: 1. JPN 1-0 ESP; GER needs a 7-goal victory over CRC. 2. JPN 2-0 ESP; a 6-0 GER victory see them go to disciplinary points.
⋮
3. JPN 3-0 ESP; a 6-goal win, or 6-1 victory to go to disciplinary points. 4. JPN 2-1 ESP; a 7-0 win to go to disciplinary points 5. JPN 3-2 ESP; a 8-0 win to go to disciplinary points 6. JPN 3-1 ESP; a 7-goal win, or 7-1 win to go to disciplinary points
and so on.
