In 2019, we found out some of our oldest PSAs, many unseen for decades, would not be saved permanently in the National Archives. We had a choice - save them or send them to a lonely landfill somewhere.
We saved them all.
Now, we're publishing them online for the first time. 🧵
The PSAs cover a range of subjects across the agency’s jurisdiction including carbon monoxide safety, crib safety, poison prevention, gas can safety, and toy safety among others.
Some of the PSAs feature familiar faces such as the cast of M*A*S*H, NFL football legend Rosie Greer, and well-known character actor Louis Nye:
We'll release the archived PSAs monthly over the next few years. Eventually, these PSAs will be available on CPSC.gov. For now, you can find the PSAs we've released so far in our PSA Archive playlist on YouTube: youtube.com/playlist?list=…
We're very excited to bring you these Archived PSAs. For some, this is the first time they've been available to the public in 40+ years.
If you are an archivist who has CPSC PSAs in your collection, please contact info@cpsc.gov about including them in our official archive!
Someone asked if Harry Dean Stanton was in this PSA. Unfortunately, we don't have casting information for all of these. If someone on #FilmTwitter thinks they have what it takes to identify the actors, we'd love to hear from you.
Fun fact: you can still order safety publications from CPSC. Instead of writing us through the mail, you can use a much newer device called the Internet: orders.gpo.gov/formOrders.asp…

Lithium-ion batteries are full of chemicals that can start fires.
If you own an e-bike, hoverboard, scooter, or other product that's powered by lithium-ion batteries, make sure you are always awake when the batteries are charging and follow the manufacturer instructions.
This National Fire Prevention Week, we join @PHMSA_DOT, @FAANews, and @EPA in educating riders about lithium-ion battery safety for micromobility devices:
CPSC Approves New Federal Safety Standard for Magnets to Prevent Deaths and Serious Injuries from High-Powered Magnet Ingestion: bit.ly/3KS2g8y
When high-powered magnets are swallowed, they can attract to each other, or to other material that attracts to magnets, through internal body tissue. This can result in perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning and death.
These injuries can occur when children and teens access and ingest the magnets, including, for example, when teens use the magnets to mimic mouth piercings and swallow them inadvertently.
