New Disabled South is fighting for a South that values disabled people. For too long, policy choices have disproportionately impacted the lives of disabled people in the South.
Whether it’s the been through the perpetuation of systemic racism, ableism, misogyny, homophobia, and anti-trans violence by state & local lawmakers, the destruction of coastal Southern towns due to a lack of action on climate change, the construction of new barriers to voting,
the deprioritization of affordable and accessible health care by those in power, and more, disabled people – particularly those who are multiply marginalized – are literally fighting for their lives, all in the middle of this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
We need a reenergized movement in the South. We need to hold those in power accountable for disabled death. We need to tear down the structures and systems that harm disabled people and imagine a world where we can be free from institutionalization, poverty, and oppression.
We can achieve that vision, and the South is leading the way.
We hope you’ll consider giving whatever you can - $1, $5, $25 - to New Disabled South today, #GivingTuesday. Your support will fuel this crucial work. Help us reach our $5,000 goal by going to newdisabledsouth.org/donate
