A powerful habit that changed my life:

Journaling.

But most journaling routines are boring and repetitive. So 3 months ago, I started a new system.

100x more fun.
100x more impactful.

Here’s how to journal right:
I’ve been journaling for 2 years now.

And I’ve followed the usual routine…

· Goal for the day
· 3x daily gratitude
· Nightly reflections

The problem is it becomes a chore.

…A tickbox exercise that loses its meaning.
The point in journaling isn’t to skim the surface.

It’s to gain a deeper understanding.

You explore ideas.

You dive into what makes you tick.

You reflect on options and make better decisions.

So instead of wasting 20 min a day with a boring schedule, here’s what to do…
A more enjoyable and effective journaling technique:

1. Set a timer where you refuse to be distracted

I do 30 minutes with my morning cup of tea.

2. Pick ONE question and go deep to answer

Explained below.

I promise the results are great. Because here's the truth:
We’re so busy ‘doing’ that we neglect the most important part of happiness and success:

Thinking.

Better choices compound into great consequences. Even a 1% improvement in decision making will have a crazy impact on a long time-frame.

But what to think about?
Simple.

What’s on your mind?

Start a question log as you go about daily life.

· What catches your eye?
· What do you read that makes you think?
· What information are you too busy to give deep thought?

This log achieves something crucial... Image
When you force yourself to think on what you learn, you bring it to life.

Because consumption is pointless without action.

You’ll gather ideas to reflect on as you go, but here’re some questions to start.

Success starts with self-awareness.

And your mind is a puzzle. Journaling pieces it together.

You can’t be happy if you don’t know what happy means.

You won’t get what you want if you don’t know where you want to go.

Set aside time to think. Answer what's on your mind.

Warren Buffett calls him the smartest man he knows:

Charlie Munger.

Together they've built a $991 billion empire. And his speeches are a masterclass in decision making, rationality, and success.

Here're 10 of his best ideas to help you win at business and life:
“Knowing what you don’t know is more useful than being brilliant.”

Most people spend their lives wrestling with the consequences of poor decisions. But the truth is it’s much easier to avoid stupidity than try to be smart.

Admit you know nothing. Remove ego from the equation.
“A majority of life’s errors are caused by forgetting what one is really trying to do.”

We set goals, pursue them, then get distracted.

To achieve something meaningful, you need to constantly correct course.

Set a north star and keep it front of mind.

7 months ago, I launched my online business.

Yesterday, it crossed $50,000 in revenue.

My aim is to make 20k/month in 2023, but with 3 constraints:

1. No freelancing
2. No more than 3 meetings a week
3. No more than 5 hours work per day

Here’s a breakdown of the plan:
As a dentist I made money selling time.

But 2 years ago, I found @naval. Now my aim is to buy it back.

Freedom is the goal - and there’re 2 vehicles to achieve it:

1. Value
2. Leverage

Let’s dive in with building #1
@naval Build Skill

A year ago, I sucked at writing. Now I’m OK. But the more I write, the more I realise how important skill is to stand out.

There're disproportionate results for the top 0.1%

So next year, the aim is take writing to the next level.

Stop building an audience. Start building a reputation.
When you make a number a goal, you’ll start optimising for a metric.

Prioritise reputation, and you optimise for relationships.
Two ways to build a great reputation:

Define your core values and embody them with your content.

Define your audience’s core needs and use content to create value.

The most powerful asset you can own:

A personal brand.

But most people don’t know how to build theirs properly.

Here’s a breakdown of the StoryBrand SB7 framework to set yourself apart:

🧵
Everyone is looking for the story they want for themselves.

If your brand tells the right one, you'll have no problem attracting clients.

Storybrand uses 7 steps mirroring the Hero's Journey to build a compelling message.

After this thread, you can too.
Define Your Character.

The golden rule of storytelling:

You are not the hero. Your reader is.

To begin your brand, define:

• Who your reader is
• What they want
• The end goal

People can only follow you if they know where you’re going.

If you're making 10-20k a month as a ghostwriter, get rid of half your clients.

Invest more energy into your own brand instead of someone else's.

Why?

Because nothing is more lucrative long-term than building leverage behind your name.
It takes guts to delay gratification and slow down in a race everyone else is running.

Quitting dentistry felt very much the same.

But compounding is a miracle, and you’ll see how much of an impact the decision makes in 5 years.
P.S.

If you DON'T have clients, get them first. Nothing speeds up writing like getting paid to do it.

@chrisorzy has a 7 figure business and just released a book on client acquisition... for $5

And yes, its an affiliate link. I'm gonna retire on 2bucks

Your level of success is directly related to your ability to gain and hold attention.
Which is why you should double down on the quality of your writing above everything else.
The hardest part about online success is saying no to opportunities to focus on skill.

But if you zoom out, nothing will make you more money than going from good to great.
