It’s #WillowWednesday. Today, we have some required reading.

Dr. Rosemary Ahtuangaruak is mayor of Nuiqsut, Alaska. @ConocoPhillips' disastrous Willow Project would directly harm her hometown, which she outlines in her op-ed for @thehill.

thehill.com/opinion/energy…
Nuiqsut is a stone’s throw away from the Willow Project, the proposed oil drilling site in Alaska’s Western Arctic.

Dr. Ahtuangaruak underscores the importance of defending Indigenous peoples’ right to clean air and water, food security, and culture.
Dr. Ahtuangaruak writes that on top of causing toxic air and water pollution, Willow would “bulldoze straight through [crucial habitats], redirecting the animals’ migratory paths…and endangering the food security of local people.”
The Willow Project would be disastrous for climate and communities alike. It’s time for the Biden administration to #StopWillow.

Historic climate legislation is now law. And it is a massive opportunity for state leaders across the country.

Here is a roundup of what IRA could mean for states —especially if they take full advantage and invest boldly in their clean energy economies ⬇️

Today belongs to every voter, activist, and leader in the climate movement who refused to take no for an answer and demanded bold action from the president and Democrats in Congress.

The climate and clean energy investments in the IRA will save countless lives and catalyze America’s transition to an equitable and thriving clean energy economy, creating millions of new good-paying jobs and lowering energy costs for households across the country along the way.
This law was a compromise, one that enshrined giveaways to the fossil fuel industry that will inflict more harm on the communities that are already on the front lines of fossil fuel pollution and deadly climate impacts—predominantly Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities.

If passed, the Build Back Better Act framework @POTUS announced yesterday would be a transformational down payment to confront the climate crisis and build an equitable, thriving clean energy economy.

33 tweet🧵 on the climate investments in the framework and why they matter 👇
1⃣ The BBBA framework includes roughly $320 billion in tax incentives for

✅ Clean electricity
✅ Electric vehicles
✅ Clean buildings
✅ Clean industries & manufacturing
✅ and more
As Evergreen has explained, clean energy tax credits like these are essential for meeting the president’s climate commitments and for jumpstarting crucial American industries that will form the backbone of a more just and sustainable clean energy economy. collaborative.evergreenaction.com/policy-hub/cle…

@POTUS’ Build Back Better Act Framework could deliver the most significant climate investment in U.S. history—reducing carbon pollution, advancing environmental justice, and creating millions of good jobs building our clean energy future.

evergreenaction.com/press/with-bui…
The framework contains transformative investments Evergreen has fought for like:

✅ Robust clean energy tax credits
✅ Environmental justice investments
✅ A Green Energy Accelerator
✅ A Civilian Climate Corps

Now, Congress must get it done.
While the announcement of this framework is welcome news, House progressives must hold the line and refuse to support the bipartisan infrastructure bill until both bills are ready to move toward the president’s desk. #NoClimateNoDeal

Tomorrow, fossil fuel execs. and industry reps. will finally testify before @RepRoKhanna, Rep @AOC, @RepCori, @RepRashida, and others in Congress.

We'll be livetweeting the event—but first, a reminder of the FF industry's long history of corruption and lies on climate 🧵👇
.@ExxonMobil has a FOUR-DECADE HISTORY of discrediting climate science that includes actively burying their *own* early research.
scientificamerican.com/article/exxon-…
Earlier this year, a senior lobbyist for @ExxonMobile was caught admitting to discrediting science, joining “shadow groups” and claiming to support solutions they knew would never pass. Par for the course for big oil.

The Build Back Better Act must deliver on @POTUS’ commitment to halve climate pollution by 2030.

The bill's clean energy tax credits are critical to that effort. 🧵 on what they are, Evergreen's role shaping them, and why they must be protected (or expanded) in the final bill.👇
The latest version of BBBA includes ~$300B in clean energy tax credits for:

✅ Clean electricity
✅ Clean transportation
✅ Clean manufacturing & industry
✅ Clean buildings

Together, these tax credits are by far the largest driver of pollution reductions in the BBBA.
So what are these tax credits?

We laid out a bold vision for clean energy tax credits in the Evergreen Action Plan and in the Clean Jumpstart Plan with our pals at @DataProgress.

More recently our @blellison55 & @SamTRicketts laid it out this memo. collaborative.evergreenaction.com/policy-hub/cle…
