I've been tracking #RidiculousRentals in BC throughout the pandemic & decided to start a 🧵 A few notes:
1) This is not a criticism of mortgage "helpers" but the absurdity of what's considered reasonable/liveable 2) Includes screenshots of ads only, with as much ID removed
The glorified hotel room. No kitchen, no closet, just a room with a bathroom for $1700/month
Sloped ceilings, pipes running through the kitchen, missing doors, holes in the walls, post through the middle of the only room, no bedroom, no room for a couch or bed. $1700/month.
The $3700/month studio. Suggested to share between 3-4 students. 1 windowless "space" that "can be used for a bedroom" (walk through the "bedroom" to get to the bathroom).
Share this mattress in Whalley for $750/month per person or $1250 for 1 person/room. 6 people to share 1 bathroom. First and last month's rent required in advance.
Share this Hastings "private" attic/storage loft (up temporary stairs through the living room), with curtains hanging off pipes as a room divider, for $2200/month (or $2000/month for 1 person to have the entire storage room to themselves).
This Vancouver Special converted bottom floor/rec room, no kitchen (but appliances inc., with food prep in the shared laundry room?), for $1650/month + 40% utilities.
(No, I don't know what's through the door behind the couch)
