Leonard Peltier was wrongly convicted of murder and has been locked up for 46 years. He is 78 years old now.

The fed attorney who prosecuted the case says he was wrong.

The judge who denied a retrial says he was wrong.

Both are asking #ClemencyForPeltier @POTUS

46 years. Almost 60% the avg. lifespan of a Native man in the US. #ClemencyForPeltier

Some facts:
• The key witness recanted & said the FBI coerced her to lie
• No witness saw the actual crime
• There is no evidence that Peltier committed the crime.

• The evidence was so lacking that #LeonardPeltier wasn’t even convicted for murder — he was convicted of aiding and abetting murder — yet there was still no clear evidence that he even did that.

The FBI needed a scapegoat. #ClemencyForPeltier

And context matters:

The feds prosecuted an Indian man for a crime he didn’t do, giving him life in prison. ALL THE WHILE - at👏🏽👏🏽the👏🏽exact👏🏽same👏🏽time there were (& still remains) 100s of unsolved murders of Native ppl in the same community. #ClemencyForPeltier

#ClemencyForPeltier would not 💯 reconcile the intergenerational harm inflicted by US state-sanctioned violence BUT it would bring an innocent grandfather home to be with his people & show that this admin is willing to confront a gross injustice. @POTUS
