/ There’s been a buzz about glucose tracking and how glucose levels can help us understand our health and metabolic response to the foods we eat
/ Unfortunately, the science behind the buzz is limited. To add some perspective, we designed a prospective observational pilot study including non-diabetic participants with and without obesity to study the clinical utility of #ContinuousGlucoseMonitoring
/ Using regression analysis, we found that insulin resistance (using #HOMA-IR as our outcome) was associated with BMI, Waste Circumference, HbA1c, fasting insulin levels, etc
/ But glycemic variability (Mean Amplitude Glycemic Excursions) wasn’t associated with any of these factors from our sample
/ While we remain strong proponents of #wearables and #CGM, we should be aware of their limitations. CGM has established value in management of diabetes and is certainly a powerful tool that warrants future investigation
While #CGM continues to make headlines, @SignosHealth is conducting a clinical trial with a target enrollment of 20K non-diabetic participants. Will have to check back in 2026 to see their results
