Just before polls close on the last day of early voting and the line is wrapped around the building and stretching 2 blocks out of this Atlanta polling place. Wait times in most of the county are well over an hour—but people are still in line #gapol #gasen
Now that 7pm has passed, poll workers are counting the number of folks in line. Some folks gotten out of line. One car stopped and honked, the driver yelled “Stay! You can do it!” #gapol
An official says there’s about 300 people in line here. Most voters have been moved inside the polling place now, I imagine to make sure no one else gets in line after the deadline and to speed the process. #gapol
One hour after polls closed and voters are still in line at this Atlanta library. #gapol

More than 180,000 people voted over the weekend in Georgia counties that opened their polls. The vast majority of people voted in-person, putting both enthusiasm and long lines on full display. #gapol #gasen

Some interesting breakdown of who voted so far from @GaSecofState’s office.

46% of voters are Black
57% of voters female
13% of voters are 18-29 ImageImageImage
This reflects that the counties that held early voting so far are more diverse, younger and urban. Will be interesting to see if it continues as mandatory early voting in all counties begins today. #gapol

Cobb attorney says the county has offered its solution in court over the +1000 voters not mailed an absentee ballot.

“If they can submit their ballot tomorrow, we’ve asked the court to extend the deadline until Nov. 14.”

Ballots still have to be postmarked by Election Day. Image
Cobb County election director says the ballots weren’t sent out due to “human error,” says 38% of staff are new to their jobs.

On mass staff departures: “Many of them said they’re overworked, too much pressure, their own lives were suffering with the extra workload.” #gapol Image
“We’re so sorry to these voters. We’re sick about it, the employee who is responsible is sick about it. She’s in tears all the time. We’re very upset, this has never happened to us and we just want to make it right,” Cobb elections director says of the oversight. #gapol Image

NEW: The Georgia special grand jury investigating the 2020 election has found “serious” criminal allegations that may lead to "prison sentences," DA Willis tells us. More targets will be identified and Willis hopes to wrap up this year.

While the grand jury's final report isn’t finished, Willis said that she believes based on what’s already been learned people will likely face prison time.

“The allegations are very serious. If indicted and convicted, people are facing prison sentences"
washingtonpost.com/national-secur…
At least 17 people are targets of the inquiry. Willis said more will be notified they face likely criminal prosecution. They include @RudyGiuliani and 16 Republicans who participated in the so-called fake elector plot to contest Georgia’s 2020 election.

Down at Fulton Superior Court today, where the judge overseeing the Fulton DA’s investigation will determine if Rudy Giuliani has to testify before a special grand jury. Follow along here! #gapol
Judge McBurney says "the purpose of today's hearing is to determine when (Giuliani) will be here and in what format," says Giuliani's lawyers are not contesting that he will eventually testify but say he may not travel to Georgia. #gapol
Judge McBurney: "I need clarity. If it turns out that Mr. Giuliani is willfully disregarding the now formal invitation to be here, that's problematic. If that's not the situation then we need to establish when he'll be here and there's lots of ways to make that happen." #gapol

New: GA Republicans largely support Trump’s conspiracy theories about 2020. That doesn’t mean they’ll back his candidates, especially as incumbents tout their own voting measures.

Inside the GA GOP primary w/ ⁦⁦@AmyEGardner⁩ ⁦@jdawsey1washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/…
Trump-backed candidates who support the “Big Lie” are running and winning primaries in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. But in Georgia, with its long history of fights over the right to vote, Trump’s imported grievances fall flat:
washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/…
The race between @BrianKempGA and @DavidPerdueGA has been defined by election grievances. While Perdue hits Kemp for “dividing” the party, many of his former staff have closed ranks around Kemp, blaming the false voter fraud claims for his 2021 loss.

At the @wsbtv gubernatorial debate, @DavidPerdueGA comes out the gate with the Big Lie: "The 2020 election was rigged and stolen," he says. Blames Kemp for Trump's (and his) election loss.
"I'm not dividing the party, the party was already divided," @DavidPerdueGA says when asked if his campaign is dividing the GOP. Claims Kemp "would not investigate anything" about the 2020 election. Some facts: usatoday.com/story/news/fac…
.@BrianKempGA pushes back on claims he didn't do enough to stop the "rigged" 2020 election. Says he "the @GBI_GA has looked at this, but you know what, so has the @FBI and they haven't moved further" because of a lack of evidence.
