Yevgeny Prigozhin lashes out at the potential US terrorism designation of the Wagner Group saying that Wagner has "always saved oppressed people from violence"

Prigozhin's statement also includes a veiled threat at the US if such a designation is made
Prigozhin's full response. He claims that terrorist groups can do anything to achieve their goals and warns the US not to wake up "sleeping Wagner" while also insisting that the Wagner Group follows a strict moral code. Strangely contradictory statement.

Victoria Nuland says that Russia has pivoted away from nuclear escalation threats to civilian infrastructure strikes

Nuland believes the reason for this pivot was international pressure on Russia not to use nukes
Russia's nuclear brinkmanship is a time-tested strategy and was aimed first at deterring Western arms supplies, and second at warning Ukraine against a counter-offensive on annexed territory

It could return to the fore again even if Putin has been warned of the costs
Civilian infrastructure strikes were advocated by the same hardliners who supported mobilization since the early stages of the war

It was logical that Putin's wholesale adoption of the hawk's agenda would lead to both infrastructure strikes and the draft occurring together

Alexei Navalny has written a new essay on the drivers of Russia's war with Ukraine and Russia's post-Putin political future

Some thoughts /1
Navalny's main argument is that defeat in Ukraine is not enough. The West should create a climate where Russia will never want to start a war again.

This is challenge, as "permanent mobilization," a large sanctioned economy and imperialism will tempt Russia to war /2
Navalny argues that Putin has a domestic off-ramp if Russia loses to Ukraine, as he will say that Russia was attacked by NATO and the collective West

The overwhelming focus on the West in today's annexation speech points to this /3
