The United States has reprogrammed its HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, which it gave to Ukraine, so that they could not be used to fire long-range missiles into Russian territory, @WSJ reported with reference to unnamed US officials.
According to the newspaper, the Biden Administration says that this is a precautionary measure to reduce the risk of war between Washington and Moscow.
Since June, the United States has transferred 20 HIMARS systems and a large number of missiles to them with a range of ~80 km.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces use them to strike Russian ammunition and fuel depots, as well as command posts and equipment storage bases in the occupied territories.
