The United States has reprogrammed its HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, which it gave to Ukraine, so that they could not be used to fire long-range missiles into Russian territory, @WSJ reported with reference to unnamed US officials.

According to the newspaper, the Biden Administration says that this is a precautionary measure to reduce the risk of war between Washington and Moscow.

Since June, the United States has transferred 20 HIMARS systems and a large number of missiles to them with a range of ~80 km.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces use them to strike Russian ammunition and fuel depots, as well as command posts and equipment storage bases in the occupied territories.

But the units transferred to Ukraine have a unique function that does not allow them to become even more powerful.

Children's Rights Commissioner for the President of the Russian Federation Maria Lvova-Belova "adopted" a child who was abducted by the Russian army from Mariupol. The woman also confessed to facilitating the illegal adoption of about 350 more children from the occupied Donbas

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stressed that the removal of Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia and their subsequent "adoption" violate the Geneva Convention and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

According to official data, during the full-scale war Russia deported over 9,000 Ukrainian children. Over 400 children died, 255 are considered missing. The exact number of affected children is impossible to establish due to active hostilities & temporary occupation of some lands
