This video shows some amazing Russian efforts at modernize their war fighting. Apparently, they are trying to move from a WWI style infantry-based army to a Winter War style infantry based army. This will be a generational leap in capabilities.
Russia lost WWI and ended up losing Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltics, Poland and several other areas. Things seem to be headed the same direction in 22. Hence the modernization campaign to Winter War Standards where Russia eventually gained Karelia from Finland. Though to honest
I am not sure the average Russian will be able to tell the difference. I guess I could list out 5 or so differences but given that they can't count since they lost their fingers to frostbite it would be pointless. More seriously though, we see hundreds of men marching in the snow
but they are not in any type of tactical formation. This means they are likely 80km or more behind the lines. Any closer and being that bunched up is an invitation to a HIMARSIKA Celebration. I also do not see any sign of AT weapons, not even RPG tubes. This is not a formation
that expects a fight. This is a gaggle of infantry that has to walk to war in the 21st century. The faces (what I can see of them) appear young so probably not Wagnerites but mobliks. Marching troops long distance in winter is a battle unto itself. So maybe they are not
modernizing after all but looking for even more distant historical models. There was after all an army that marched from Moscow all the way through Ukraine and made it to Poland in 1812. Two of them actually of the 1.2 million troops that started the retreat from Moscow only
about 1 in 3 survived to see Christmas. Losses were much greater for the French with only about 1 in 10 making the journey but the Czar's Army got wrecked as well. with only about 1 in 2 making the trip. So, I think the Napoleonic Model might actually be a better fit than the
War. The hogs, ravens and eagles are going to have a very easy winter. The stench come spring is going to require a whole new fundraiser for Ukraine to provide the clean up details with vicks vapor rub and N-95's to deal with it. The video literally shows men walking to their
deaths. Sadly they will not die alone. They will take some Ukrainians with them either defenders or hapless civilians as they loot, rob and rape. The best way to keep that number down as much as possible is to send more, send better and send now. Thats why I tag @JohnBoozman,
@SenTomCotton, and @RepFrenchHill every day. The Free World must keep supporting Ukraine. We must also do our part. The snow doesn't care. If falls on the invaders, the defenders and the civilians denied heat and electricity by the actions of #RussiaIsATerroristState. Frostbite,
hypothermia, trench foot, respiratory diseases and the flu are all going to add stressors that we can actually do something about. Donating to charities like @MriyaAid, @U24_gov_ua, @LibertyUkraineF, @UkraineAidOps and @3xR_team is a huge part of the puzzle. Ditto donating
directly to units like @georgian_legion and @belwarriors. You might see drives for specific items like IFAKS or warm socks, or just requests for money so the needed items can be sourced locally but the point is to give as you can and feel lead to. When this winter gives way to
spring we want to make sure as many Ukrainians are hale and as many Russian's are not as possible. Thats the brutal calculus of war. I take no joy in Russia losing a generation of men. The only reason to hope so many die is that their deaths will prevent Ukrainian deaths. 100K by
Apparently Engel-2 Airbase was hit with at least 2 aircraft damaged. Its likely though not confirmed that the aircraft would be either Tu-160 or T-95 strategic bombers.
Once again some Kremlin staffer has to tell Czar Pooptin that the thing they told him Ukraine couldn't do, they did. So some quick thoughts on the fall out. @wartranslated is already reporting Kleptogradian mil-bloggers are raging.
Threats of nuclear war and doomcasting aside there are four likely moves from Russia. First, consider it a one off and do nothing as too not disrupt the pace of operations. Given how stupid the Russian military is this can't be discounted even if it flies in the face of every
Well that is what's called waking up to the Earth Moved. 5 big things on the ticket today. First, conservstives are feeling rather justified. With Twittergate about to blow up the American political scene right before the GOP takes over the House things are going to be intense.
1. Twittergate 2. Russian Public Opinion 3. retreat from Zaporizhia 4. #Ukrainiancounteroffensive 5. inability to reconstitute offensive power. Thise 5 things are on Putin's palte today and only one of them looks tasty to him, remember that and don't help him with it.
Between Zuckbucks and Twittergate its now rather clear that the 2020 election was not conducted on a level playing field. Russia is going push every possible narrative around this they can. This is a golden opportunity for them to sow more division. I think we (Americans) all
America we have a problem. There is now a ven diagram with 3 circles that are extreme left, extreme right and antisemitism. It does not matter if the anti-semite is some evil white dude motivated by the Turner Diaries or a black nationalist shooting up a Jewish deli its dangerous
and evil. But there are a couple more circles that fit as well. Groups Russia has tried to influence and groups that support Russia in Ukraine. Kim Dotscam was right when he said Ye is done. When you make Alex Jones back up and say whoa, well you've gone straight past the looney
bin and dived into oblivion. But here is the thing, Kim (who has a lot of US followers) didn't say Ye was wrong, only wrong to say the quiet part out loud. Russia is going to make absolute hay with this and claim: Americans think there is something to love about Hitler, and if
Let's talk casualty care. The UMOD has Russian deaths at 90K and if they are still tracking along with Russia's own MOD admissions that got leaked several months ago then this number is at least in the ball park or reality. It certainly squares with the images we see coming from
Bakhmut. Those types of trench based positional fights chew up men. The provision of the M30A1 MLRS rocket certainly won't help Russia stop the bleeding... On the other side there is the (corrected) claim that Ukraine has suffered 100K casualties: dead, wounded, missing, and KIA.
With later speculation that the real numbers are 10K dead and 40K seriously wounded. Now none of those numbers are real but they do offer insights. 90K Russian deaths begs a serious question: how many wounded. The traditional ratio of dead to wounded was 1:3. I think that might
Why Bakhmut? Its a common question as people try to figure out what Russia hopes to gain from a battle that now resembles a WWI battlefield right down to the mud and unburied bodies. I am going to try and answer that question, or at least pose a reasonable explanation. Firstly
there are 3 battles you never want to fight, though all 3 are very common in military history. 1. The battle your enemy wants you to fight. 2. The battle where your enemy is. 3. The battle you have to win. All 3 require you to give up valuable tools like the initiative, room to
maneuver, and time. For the Russians Bakhmut has become all 3. The battle started for rather simple reasons. After the Russian breakthrough at Popasnaya Bakhmut was simply the next blocking position taken up by the Ukrainians. Thats where the enemy (of the Russians) was so that
Good morning everyone. Today is Giving Tuesday! I jumped the gun a little bit last night (it was already Tuesday in Kyiv) to take advantage of Cyber Monday (in Arkansas) to send an IFAK to @UkraineAidOps. I am asking my readers to give something today to some organization that is
hate, we can send love and defiance. At this point just about every trooper in the Ukrainian Army has something from the West. From government supplied aid to little "care packages" from people like us that could be a chest carrier, IFAK or radio. The Ukrainian people know there
